Pride has been defined as a feeling of deep pleasure or satisfaction derived from one's own achievements. Some fields, research areas and schools are found to have one or limited number of professors especially in Africa. Should we considered this as an ACHIEVEMENT on the part of the only existing professor or SELFISHNESS for failing to produce new ones?
To rise to the level of Professor in a particular field is a great achievement and matter of pride not only for the individual but to the institution as well.
Professor is considered to be an institution in itself.
Professors are expected to be having in depth knowledge and expertise in own field and provide new directions for research, knowledge creation and its further dissemination to the concerned.
Professors are expected to provide direction to other researchers to acquire in depth knowledge and facilitate their rise to higher levels.
Of course becoming a professor in the field is an achievement to be proud of, since he had put efforts for it. But he/she must encourage and help the others for attaining this reputed designation.
Please do not ask anymore questions like that. Ask a question like this: what should I do to be a professor ? you can be a professor , nothing you miss, a huge effort, looking for a good group of research (students and collegue or member of RG) and after a few years you will be a professor . Believe me it's not something magical.
