What is XX% effective reported for the new vaccinates based on??? On clinical symptoms???, on increased antibody???, CTL???, NK??? production, or on some other trigger??? Perhaps efficacy is short-term only.
Why is protection assumed to be a result of a humoral immune response---what happened to cell-mediated and innate mediated immune benefits????
How many different antigenic epitopes on the mRNA products stimulate antibodies. If only one, is hard to believe that APC cells with different HLA presenting entices would result in a high percentage of efficacy. Is mRNA large enough to code for multiple epitopes???
With apparently a protective lipid sheath, seems NK cells might be activated independent of mRNA

"% effective" appears to be a novel metric they made up specifically for covid-related press releases. I never saw it explained either. Perhaps something about the stock market.
If one does focus on the humoral side, the relevant pre-covid metric would have been the titer of neutralizing (vs. non-neutralizing) antibodies produced. The mRNA people don't talk about that. It's probably not a good sign. I do not believe that the relevancy of cellular immunity assays has suddenly disappeared either. We do not know from FDA that they changed their mind on any of that.
It used to be the case that this kind of scammy press release lifted the stock of one small cap biotech. Now they lift the entire market. What a spectacle. Good luck when the FDA meetings start hitting... (they're not going to cave to political pressure, are they now?)
Well, now we know. It is in fact a reference to the prevention of diagnosed Covid "cases" (almost all of them mild), after enough time has passed to build effective antibodies. (full report: https://www.fda.gov/media/144245/download)
Although hospitalizations and deaths are too few to show up in this small trial, we probably got what we want: An ability to broadly suppress detectable infections in the general population. We're likely looking at the beginning of the end.
