I have selected the study area,where heavy rainfall of 2400 mm occurs yearly and sediment problem is also observed,I have seen in the study area some check dam are field with sediments.
shall we quantify sediment using Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) model
as far as i know about SWAT, input about sedimentation is given in some recognize units, and it will works
can any one give references about this?
I am not a SWAT expert to advise when it is most appropriate. However, depending on when check dams were installed, there may be ways to estimate their content or dredge out sediments and weigh them. Sediment can come from surface erosion, stream bank erosion or bank or slope failures. Land uses and instream activities can also contribute. If the sediment comes from surface erosion, one must consider how much sediment is delivered to steams, how much is transported, and how much retained. If you can determine the most likely sources of the sediment, the stream types involved, areas of sediment storage as well as areas of bank erosion or failures, these type data may help determine which model or models to select or combine. If you choose a model, it would be best to validate its applicability with sediment data and inventory of sediment sources. If you find examples of sediment models that have been developed or validated within your physiographic area and land use patterns, I would favor them over a model that has ability to generate sediment numbers, unless that model is quite demanding for addressing sediment source data on the hydrologic scale of interest such as soils, topography, vegetation type and cover, land uses, activities exposing or disturbing soils, stream types, bank stability, etc.
As suggested by professor, you will get sediment yield from HRU output file, you need observed sediment flow within your study area to do calibration daily or monthly. Select the parameters like channel erode, filter strips or by adding obstruction like check dams, retention dams then you can see some variation in the sediment flow.
You may look at the attached article wherein sediment yield has been modeled for the high rainfall region of Kerala, India using SWAT.

There is an erosion estimation module in SWAT, the MUSLE equasion is applied. You can find the Sediment estimates in "output.sub".
