The body needs to go through a hectic process again and might be much deadly if the strain is mutated, as the immune system has already been for so long in clearing the first infection. It might be exausted during the second exposure, if its not so please explain

I think it will be easier for the body IF it can recognize it. When we talk about mutation, its a part that has changed and not in entirety. If you take an example of in vitro protein binding, we do get non-specific binding all the time, this is due to the similarity of the protein but not exactly same. In the same way, I feel, if the body can recognize part of it then it will be easier for the immune system to deal with it.
