Can anyone help me to know about scour and sediment in a 180 degree sharp bend? We conducted some experiments in our laboratory (180 degree sharp bend, R/B=1) and observed that the outer wall does not contribute in scour and sediment transport. So according to these experiments, can we install some hydraulic structures in the inner wall for reduce scour? while I know all over the world, hydraulic structures such as spur dikes install in the outer wall.

The structure of turbulent flow in a channel with sharp bend is rather complex. The first you may to do is to consider attentively the hydrodynamics of the flow and estimate the areas where turbulent eddies arise. When "hydraulic structures such as spur dikes install in the outer wall", the turbulent energy of the flow is redistributed and the risk of erosion at the inner wall decreases.

I agree with Dr. Dolgopolova that bend flow is very complex, involving 3D turbulent boundary layer under strong pressure gradient. This subject has been studied mainly by fluid mechanists and aeronautical engineers. I think a good understanding of flow field is necessary to understand scouring. Thanks.
