A while ago I attended a seminar about how to publish a scientific paper. I have some publications so when the speaker asked if anyone had any experience publishing I proudly raised my hand. he said what topics is your paper in? I proudly said : Engineering< Petroleum. HE shook his head and said that doesn't count! That's too easy! you guys write reports to lab experiments not papers! Being the only engineer there I shut up and listened to him teach us how to write! Given the reputation of the speaker, has anyone had a similar problem? Do you feel like in engineering we are just writing lab reports? Also it appeared to me that the frame work of the headings we use in engineering and science papers are somewhat different from that of humanity ones. what do you think? Do you ask for approval from a certified editor in your department before publishing or you just go with the advice of your own supervisor?
