Hi everybody,

I am working with G mellonella, and I know that one of the advantages of it is the lack of ethics commit and the 3R principles. However, I am very insecure about the sample size I need. Some studies use 12-16 larvae per group and other use 30-36 per group. Some state that they perform the experiments in triplicates, while others do not say anything about it.

What would be the best approach? Would be acceptable to perform a power calculation (similar to mice work) to define the sample size? Should we perform replicates (don't see the logic behind it, since it is an in vivo model)?

I appreciate any thoughts on this topic!
