Russia's full-scale military aggression against Ukraine has been going on for almost 2 years. Some call this aggressive attack (in which hundreds of thousands of people have already died on both sides) obscure words "conflict", "special military operation", "denazification" and so on. I decided to start this discussion to see if the opinions and attitudes towards this aggression have changed on the part of representatives of world science (not only Russians and Ukrainians but also citizens of other countries) 2 years after the start of Russia's full-scale invasion in Ukraine. Please provide your thoughts, impressions, and facts about what is happening in Ukraine now.
The Russians are shelling Ukrainian cities with cruise missiles. Mass explosions in Kyiv and Kharkiv.
The Russians also bombarded Kyiv with Kinzhal hypersonic missiles. Unfortunately, our Western partners do not allow their weapons to be used on Russian territory, but we have missiles and other Ukrainian-made weapons)
One of the consequences of today's Russian missile attack on Kyiv (attached MP4 video). In this video, the house is located next to the house where my son lives now. Putin and Russian propaganda do not call it genocide (intentional killing of civilians based on their nationality), but the obscure word "denazification"
And now about why Ukrainians need Western weapons - Ukrainian air defense shot down all Shahed drones and more than 60 Kh-101/Kh555Kh-55 missiles and 10 hypersonic Kh-47M2 "Kinzhal" missiles. This is thanks to the support of NATO countries.
To War or Not To War, That's The Question to Ask NATO! Because, in front of the Russian war machine, infernal and implacable, it is nonsense and cynically hypocritical to say to Ukrainians: I'm with you and helping you to defend Ukraine to the end, to the last Ukrainian, if necessary. DW, (Jan. 1, 2024), by Juri Rescheto, Russia in 2024: Same president, same war. Surprises are in short supply for Russians. President Vladimir Putin will likely secure a fifth term in office. The economy remains stable despite sanctions. And few ordinary Russian are troubled by the war in Ukraine. Read on:

The Ministry of Defense of Russia actually admitted that residents of Belgorod were killed and wounded as a result of air defense. https://glavcom.ua/world/observe/minoboroni-viznalo-shcho-meshkantsi-bilhoroda-stali-zhertvami-rosijskoji-ppo--977569.html
Ukrainian rockets and attack drones flew over the city of Belgorod in order to destroy the S-300 missile systems from which the Russians were shelling the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv. Some of them were shot down by Russian air defense. Debris fell on the heads of residents of Belgorod. Thousands of such cases are known in Ukraine. Let the people of Russia feel what war is like. Because this is a slightly different idea of war than watching the shelling of Ukraine on TV and supporting these actions of Putin.

Truthout (1 hour ago), Israeli Ministers’ Comments About Mass Evictions in Gaza Alarm Observers. The remarks follow Netanyahu reportedly saying that he wants “voluntary migration” of Palestinians from Gaza. "..A document from the Israeli Intelligence Ministry that leaked during the early stages of Israel’s latest attack on Gaza proposes the forcible and permanent transfer of all of Gaza’s 2.2 million Palestinian residents to Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula. The Egyptian government has publicly opposed the forced transfer of Palestinians, which would be a war crime.
In recent days, United Nations officials and humanitarian groups have been increasingly vocal in warning about the Israeli government’s apparent desire to force Palestinians out of Gaza, where around 70% of housing units have been damaged or destroyed by Israeli bombing since October 7. Late last month, the U.N.’s special rapporteur on the human rights of internally displaced persons said that “as evacuation orders and military operations continue to expand and civilians are subjected to relentless attacks on a daily basis, the only logical conclusion is that Israel’s military operation in Gaza aims to deport the majority of the civilian population en masse.” Smotrich and Ben-Gvir’s remarks intensified such warnings. “Anyone defending or denying the clear motivations of Israel’s political leaders is actively enabling the ethnic cleansing and mass murder of Palestinians in Gaza,” Em Hilton, a Jewish anti-occupation activist, wrote on social media. “We have a duty to do everything we can to stop this horror and ensure that [the international] community holds Israel to account.” Ariel Bernstein, a researcher for the Israeli group Breaking the Silence, echoed that message, writing, “This government must be stopped now, their aim is simple: to wipe out the Gazan population.” Journalist Mehdi Hasan, whose MSNBC show was recently canceled, asked whether U.S. officials have “any comment” on the Israeli ministers’ statements suggesting ethnic cleansing of the Gaza Strip. “They’re saying it out loud!” Hasan wrote."

To: Marina Klykova. It's your Russian classic that said "You can't understand Russia with your mind." Therefore, the advice of your other classic (in the video on YouTube) applies only to Russians, because other people will never understand this crazy Russian perception of the world.
To: Marina Klykova. I understood your opinion about me a long time ago. I am not offended, because every person has the right to his opinion. But I would like to hear your opinion not about me, but about those photos and videos of the Russian shelling of Kyiv and Kharkiv. Can you write something about it?
A typical Russian response is "You're lying." Because in Russia, only federal channels tell the "pure truth". Just open any world mass media! Oh, I forgot, they all lie too! And the easiest way to make sure is to come to us in Kharkiv. But then you will say that you do not believe your eyes.
Kyiv suffers major Russian missile and drone attack https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E0uwwFwaQW8
This is a video (2 hours) about the Russian missile attack on Kyiv. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8vH7u1pjMjc When you, Russians, will understand that you can't scare the Ukrainians. With each such shelling, sympathizers of the "Russian world" become less and less and more and more people hate you! Because there is something for it! Tell all these affected people about "Santa's gifts".
Watch the video! 2 hours!!! Where do you see officers and soldiers there? Rudeness and impudence are 2 typical features of Russians. That is why the whole world is afraid of Russians. But not Ukrainians. Your Russian leaders (Putin and co.) like jackals, instead of fighting an honest battle at the front, are shelling civilians 300 kilometers from the front. What kind of "second army of the world" are you, if you could not take Avdeyevka for 8 months? This is how you exterminate peaceful people in cities out of anger! Scumbags!
To: Marina Klykova Did I understand you correctly that you fully support Russian missile attacks on Ukrainian cities? Just say yes or no clearly. Simple question - simple answer.
To: Marina Klykova Oh, how you are burning up from hearing the truth! I asked a simple question - "Did I understand you correctly that you fully support Russian missile attacks on Ukrainian cities? Just say yes or no clearly. Simple question - simple answer". At the same time, you do not even realize that the destruction of people who do not share your ideology is fascism. And fascism, which is based on the supremacy of the Russian nation over others (for example, Ukrainians), is Nazism. Therefore, it is necessary to de-Nazify not Ukrainians, but Russians!
To: Marina Klykova
You tell Ukrainians what to do. What not to do. Who to kick out? Who to be. Who not to be. You deny the murders, torture, and rape of Ukrainians, which you are carrying out now, starting since 2014. You deny the occupation of Ukrainian territories, hypocritically calling it the will of local residents. Hypocritically referring to the results of pseudo-referendums held by your military and special services under duress, in the occupied territories, in an atmosphere of terror.
With the rest, nothing new. You have always done this with everyone. And you always lied. You denied the genocide of the Ukrainian people committed by you in 1933, when more than 6 million Ukrainians were killed due to an artificially created hunger. You denied the ethnocide of Ukrainians - the ban and attempts to destroy the Ukrainian national identity through the ban on Ukrainian language, printing of books, theaters, etc. You denied your destruction of Ukrainian statehood and attempts to recreate this statehood. You deny our existence by claiming that we don't really exist.
Meanwhile, you stole our story. Calling yourself "Russian", connecting your origin with the ancient state of Rus. The center of which was Kyiv. While Ukrainians are the direct descendants of the people of Rus. And you (Muscovites) have never had anything to do with Rus.
And throughout your history, you capture others, kill them, or force them to fight on your side in your imperial wars. How Buryats, Tatars, Chechens, Dagestanis and even Ukrainians from the territories you occupy are fighting in Ukraine now. You throw them into battle first, and they are the first to die.
Recently, you invaded Georgia, Syria. Your soldiers are killing people in many countries of the world, under the mask of private military companies. Your spies poison people in Great Britain with military poisons, shoot people on the streets of Germany, prepare armed coups in Montenegro, etc. And the whole world knows about it. And you continue to lie to the eyes of this world, repeating "we are not there."
You called Georgians and Estonians fascists, and now you call Ukrainians fascists. And you claim to be fighting against fascism. But anyone who discovers the definition of fascism and takes a closer look at your state and social system will immediately see that you are exactly fascists.
Here are some features of fascism:
1) Strong and lasting nationalism - fascist regimes constantly use nationalist slogans, mottos, symbols, songs and so on. Flags can be seen everywhere, as well as flag symbols on clothing and in public places.
2) Neglect of universally recognized human rights - out of fear of the enemy and under the pretext of ensuring security, the fascist authorities believe that human rights can be ignored in certain cases for the sake of "necessity". People are forced to "think differently" or even approve of beatings, murders, and long-term imprisonment of detainees.
3) Identification of the enemy / expiatory sacrifices as a unifying basis - peoples under fascist regimes unite in a patriotic movement in the fight against a common danger or enemy: racial, religious or national minorities, liberals, communists, socialists, terrorists.
4) The dominant position of the armed forces- even if the country has many acute internal problems, the armed forces receive disproportionately large budget funding, and internal problems remain unresolved. Propaganda imposes an attractive image of the military and military service.
5) Strong discrimination based on gender - fascist governments are dominated by men. Traditional gender roles are rigidly fixed. Negative attitude towards abortion and homophobia.
6) Control over the media - they are controlled directly by the government or indirectly through sympathetic journalists or media executives. Widespread censorship - especially in wartime.
7) Manic obsession with national security - fear is used as a motivational tool of the government to pressure the masses.
8) The interweaving of religion and government - the governments of fascist countries use religion as a tool to control public opinion. Religious rhetoric and terminology are used by government leaders even when the core tenets of the religion are diametrically opposed to government actions or policies.
9) The obsessive idea of crime and punishment - under fascist regimes, the police are given almost unlimited powers. In the name of patriotism, people in many cases prefer not to notice police abuses, even violations of their civil liberties. A national police force is often created with unlimited powers.
10) Rampant Nepotism and Corruption - Fascist regimes are almost always run by clans of cronies and associates who appoint each other to government positions and use their power to shield members of their clan from accountability. Most often, government leaders appropriate or even directly steal state resources and the treasury.
11) Fraudulent elections - elections in fascist states often turn into a farce. Often a smear campaign (or even murder) of opposition candidates is carried out, legislation is used to manipulate the number of voters, district boundaries, and mass media. Fascist regimes often use the judicial system to manipulate elections.
Therefore, Russia is:
aggressor country
occupying country
terrorist country
killer country
rapist country
executioner country
maniac country
thief country
hypocrite country
xenophobic country
homophobic country
fascist country
nazi country
liar country
I created this topic so that here Russian and Ukrainian (and not only) scientists could not only tell what they think, but also provide FACTS that support these opinions. My previous communication with Russians has shown that when it comes to specifics (facts), Russians get emotional without arguments. For example, I asked you a simple question: "Do you support rocket attacks on Ukrainian cities?" Instead of saying "yes" or "no" - you are shaken by a storm of emotions. Or the second example. They show you photos of the destruction - you say "I don't believe it, it can't be. It is not known where these photos were taken." Then they show you a video for 2 hours - then you say "It's Ukrainian fault". A scientist must work and form his opinion based on facts. Therefore, I wanted to hear the facts on the basis of which Russian scientists support Putin's fascist ideology. You Russians like to talk about fascism that ONCE was. But look at the definition of fascism and Nazism and compare it with what you have now in Russia! But this is your country. And we (Ukrainians) don't care what happens there. The main thing is that Russia and Russians do not interfere with us in Ukraine. But you always intervened. And today's war is the apogee of this intervention.
I am addressing all foreign colleagues! Some of you support the position of the representative of Russia, Marina Klykova. Please write your arguments for this support.
An intellectual debate is not a soccer game and even less a boxing fight. It's not a verbal joust either. Debate is a Mind Exercise or it is not.
Speaking of Facts, well from the scientific point of view these are to be sought in references that are academically validated or which can be. Regarding the Crisis in Ukraine, the Fact is to be found in the analysis of the recent History of Post-Cold-War Europe. In this regard, one can read the recent book by Goldgeier, J., & Shifrinson, J. R. I. (Eds.). (2023), "Evaluating NATO Enlargement: From Cold War Victory to the Russia-Ukraine War. Springer Nature."

Today I took a walk around the city of Saratov. Before that, I read in the media (Russian, Ukrainian, etc.) about what is happening in the world, especially in the area of military action. Nothing good. I interviewed a few people the way I know how to do it. And I understood the general mood of people, if I understood it (?).
People don't care about what the media says. Their friends and relatives are being killed, there are already bombings in Russia (Belgorod, etc). And what follows from this? The number of volunteers who will go to fight on the side of Russia will grow. And many will fight not for Putin and not for money, but to avenge a murdered brother or friend. My cousin (father Russian, mother Ukrainian) from Irpen was avenging a murdered friend and fought (ATO) with DNR in 2014. He fought as a cook, but it doesn't matter, for this he got a flat in a new house. The mentality of Russians and Ukrainians is very similar - "The Motherland is in danger". - And they go to die for their Motherland! Nobody knows when all this will end....
I will try to answer everyone in turn. I'll start from the end
P.F. Zabrodskyi - 1) He who dies for his homeland is called a defender (from the aggressor). People who die attacking another country are not defenders. They are aggressors. Therefore, their deaths are not for their homeland, but for something else (money, ideology, etc.). Thus, Russians not defend their homeland (no one attacked it). Unlike the Ukrainians.
Jamel Chahed - 1) I agree with the first statement (about intellectual debate) and supported it. 2) Regarding the facts... Here it is much more complicated. The book you refer to is the VISION OF ONE (even the most intelligent!) person. She/he can show those only facts that are beneficial to her and not show unfavorable moments. Potentially it can be manipulation ( I do not claim that this is so, I simply allow it. Therefore, only a LOT of primary facts and an understanding of their logical connection can convince me as the scientist). 3) See my discussion with Marina Klykova a few pages ago. I give a photo (fact). She says - it is not clear where this photo was taken (does not accept the fact). And she is supported by many colleagues. Then I give a video (it's the same as lots of photos). Then she says "You are lying about attacks on Ukrainian cities". What facts can convince such people? A reference from Putin that he gave the order to bomb Kharkiv and Kyiv with missiles? But he won't give me such a certificate, so I can't give it as fact. Therefore, in science (as well as in forensics), if there are no DIRECT facts, a LOT of indirect ones are used. Russians do not consider it as evidence
a video (2 hours!) of the results of the Russian missile attack on large Ukrainian cities, which was reported by all reputable international news agencies (which, in turn, received information from their correspondents in those cities). Do you think this is normal?
History fact transcends the opinion of the Historian who relates it. We don't have to be afraid of reading History Books: Reading History Books is the only way we can have, access to Historical Facts, those of the “Historical Truth”
On Aggressed, Aggressor, NATO Enlargement, and Ukraine War. Russia's real problem can be summed up by this beautiful quote from Walter E. Williams (Author): "If you hate my guts and have designs to hurt me, and I see you building a cannon aimed at my house, I am not going to wait for you to finish construction". This moreover is in the same vein as the words of Pope Francis who in an interview1, has called the war in Ukraine: “cruel and senseless”...; And described the “barking of NATO at Russia's Door” as one of the triggers for Putin's wrath...

Moral: As things stand, it is worth remembering that the “Nagging Issue”, Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow is: "To War or not To War, That's the Question to ask NATO"; and for a good reason. The Telegraph (Jan. 1, 2024), 2024 will be a critical year for the West and the world Dictators must be faced down or the outlook is bleak indeed "The new year dawns with the West being drawn in the direction that every diplomatic sinew has been straining to avoid – direct conflict with either Russia or Iran, or both. The relentless Russian air and missile attacks on civilian targets in Ukraine seem designed to demoralise its people just as the West is cooling in its support almost two years after the invasion...As the West’s promise to back Ukraine “for as long as it takes” begins to fray at the edges, Putin will sense that his earlier calculation of waning interest abroad is beginning to show dividends. Sanctions have not brought Russia to its knees nor triggered a coup. Will 2024 see Nato back away further, especially in a US election year?
Matters are complicated by the spreading war in the Middle East. The West has been desperate to see this confined to an Israeli-Hamas fight, but the longer it goes on, with untold suffering in Gaza, the greater the likelihood that it will spread... The diplomatic and military conundrum at the start of this year, therefore, is whether it will be possible to continue taking a stand against Russia and Iran without triggering a direct conflict with either or both. As a nuclear power, Russia will persist in making dark threats about the consequences of Western involvement... The world is potentially facing its most critical year since the end of the Cold War and arguably since 1945. The autocrats must be faced down or the outlook is bleak indeed."

Quote (Jamel Chahed) - "History fact transcends the opinion of the Historian who relates it. We don't have to be afraid of reading History Books: Reading History Books is the only way we can have, access to Historical Facts, those of the “Historical Truth” . I believe there is an internal contradiction in this statement (just don't be offended). 1) "A historical fact is MORE than a historian's OPINION" (I agree here). 2) "Reading History Books (written by individual historians) is the ОNLY WAY we can have, access to Historical Facts". (I disagree here). Where do historians get their facts from? From primary sources (witnesses, participants of events, etc.). Therefore, receiving information from historians does not mean receiving factual information. There is a saying "History is written by the winners" for a reason. In addition to the books of historians, there are also historical archives where a lot of primary information is stored. That is why the Russians for centuries took out ancient manuscripts from Ukrainian monasteries, where various facts were described. This is how the Russians stole the history of Ukrainians and wrote THEIR history of Russia.
Quote (Jamel Chahed) - about "...the “barking of NATO at Russia's Door” as one of the triggers for Putin's wrath..." Then give me the answer to a very simple question - "Why in such a case Putin attacked Ukraine and not NATO?". How does Ukraine corelative (besides Putin's imperial ambitions to take over Ukraine) to Putin's relations with NATO? Why did he not attack the Baltic countries and Finland, which have a direct border with Russia? Therefore, it seems that Russia's fear of the borders with NATO approaching is a narrative of Russian propaganda!
The Russian war on Ukraine can be summed up by this beautiful quote from Walter E. Williams (Author): "If you hate my guts and have designs to hurt me, and I see you building a cannon aimed at my house, I am not going to wait for you to finish construction". So by attacking Ukraine Putin is, in fact taking on NATO. The ball is now in NATO's court. As I frequently mentioned: To War or Not To War, That's The Question to Ask NATO! Because, in front of the Russian war machine, infernal and implacable, it is nonsense and cynically hypocritical to say to Ukrainians: I'm with you and helping you to defend Ukraine to the end, to the last Ukrainian, if necessary. On the other hand, who granted that Russia will not attempt to push towards the Balkans and East Europe? And who granted that NATO will then implement Article 5? Given how things are evolving in US Diplomacy and in European leadership, the least one can say is that there are reasons to doubt.
Moral: I only pity Europe (Lamentable) from the Atlantic to the Urals.

In private messages I had a discussion with one of the Russians. To my question about the reasons for Russia's attack on Ukraine, he said that it was the "Banderov" in the Ukrainian government. Then I asked him a logical question - "...Give me an answer to one simple question. The Russians have always said that Kharkov is a Russian city. You know that there have never been Bandera in Kharkov. 90-95% of the residents of Kharkov PREVIOUSLY sympathized with Russia. SO WHY DID THE RUSSIANS DESTROY A WHOLE microdistrict of the city ( Northern Saltovka), leaving about 300,000 people who previously sympathized with Russia without homes!), and why are they now continuing to shell the city center, destroying my Karazin University in the process? I’m looking forward to the arguments!” There were no arguments (which is not surprising). Therefore, I ask everyone to voice what they think about this matter, especially Russians (I think that foreigners do not even know who Stepan Bandera was, and Russians too, except for what the Russian propaganda machine put into their heads)
In the Soviet years, the Russians did not smile, but committed genocide of the Ukrainian people (read about the "Holodomor"). The parliaments of 28 countries recognized the Holodomor as genocide of the Ukrainian people. In total, as of July 27, 2023, Holodomor was recognized as genocide by 28 countries: Australia, Belgium, Bulgaria, Great Britain, Georgia, Ecuador, Estonia, Iceland, Canada, Colombia, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Mexico, Moldova, Germany, Paraguay, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Slovakia, USA, Hungary, France, Croatia and the Czech Republic, as well as the European Parliament. The genocidal nature of the Holodomor was recognized by the Roman Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church of Constantinople. Read more about the "Holodomor" here - https://holodomormuseum.org.ua/en/holodomor-is-a-genocide/
PACE - In light of these considerations, the Assembly: 14.1. decides to recognise the Great Famine (the Holodomor) as an act of genocide intended to break the backbone of Ukrainian nationhood, language and culture, and commemorates its victims; Resolution 2516 (2023) 2 14.2. encourages the parliaments of Council of Europe member States and other parliaments which have not yet done so to adopt resolutions commemorating the victims of the Holodomor, and recognising it as a genocide. https://pace.coe.int/pdf/15da46b7a092d3e8deed5fb4e14b80f1f7d46edefc1f8ca9beb57f177f699533/res.%202516.pdf and here - https://pace.coe.int/en/files/33142#trace-3
I can only pity Europe from the Atlantic to the Urals. "Central Asia and Western Asia are becoming the focus of a rather intense infrastructural activity in which, within the BRICS framework, China, Russia and India will play leading roles. However, the EU, which has already largely cut itself off from Russia, is ceding to US pressures aimed against China. The EU, I believe, will play a minor role in Eurasia and Western Asia. The European Union is also likely to be a marginal factor in large segments of Africa. As more countries become members of BRICS, intra-BRICS non-dollar trade and investment will rise at the expense of the European share. To this we must add the demise of France’s influence in a number of central African countries whose governments are likely to look more towards China and Russia." This is the ultimate conclusion of the Paper by Halevi, J. (2023). "Germany, Europe and the crisis". PSL Quarterly Review, 76(306), 215-223 (Released 1 month ago).

Marina Klykova wrote (only in Russian for some reason, probably so that foreign colleagues would not understand) - "I can easily debunk the myth of "the holodomor" in the same way. But, laziness. Holidays..." (Я могу легко разоблачить так же и миф о голодоморе. Но, лень. Праздники...)
Pay attention, 1 Russian scientist "can easily debunk the "myth" for which the parliaments of 28 countries voted (and these documents were prepared by scientists of these countries!). The classic Russian answers - "you all lie" and "everyone is stupid, only we are smart".
Quote (Jamel Chahed) - "...So by attacking Ukraine Putin is, in fact taking on NATO..." I do not understand this logic. If he wants taking on NATO, let him challenge some NATO country. Ukraine is not a member of NATO. NATO will not fight for it (although Ukraine has security guarantees under the Budapest Memorandum from the USA, Great Britain, France, China and... Russia itself).
Quote (Marina Klykova) "...The difference between Russian and Polish is no more than the dialect differences in German, Italian, Arabic, and Chinese. But these languages are considered a single language..." If a linguist told me this, I might have believed it. But I do not believe the microbiologist who tells me about the proximity of languages. I think the Poles would also disagree with the thesis about the closeness of the Polish and Russian languages.
"Is the new balance of power permanently changing world politics? What consequences can this have for international and regional security? How ready and capable is the West to maintain its current position? Does NATO have a future? How the EU will transform in political and military sense? What are the perspectives for the EU ambitions to consolidate it on the base of the “Russian threat” and realize its internal transformation?" With this Collection of papers we edit, we want to find answers to these and many other questions. The provocative title “Eurasian Security after NATO” can be taken either literally or figuratively." Quote (Marina Klykova) - "...There are millions of published works in other Slavic countries that have nothing to do with the "Ukrainian" nonsense..." (meaning the history of the Ukrainian people stolen by the Russians). Funny to hear that coming from a microbiologist. Let's leave history to the historians. If the Ukrainian and Russian languages are very similar (in your opinion), then it will not be difficult for you to understand what is described in the thorough work Mykhailo Hrushevskyi's "History of Ukraine-Rus" (10 volumes of 600-650 pages each), written on materials from foreign archives and church books. http://archeos.org.ua/?page_id=1522 And then we can discuss history.
Regarding this historical work of Hrushevsky, one of the Western historians said - "...Hrushevsky’s History of Ukraine-Rus’ represented a seismic break from the Russocentric paradigm that had previously driven historiography. Russian imperial domination of political history had sought to entrench a narrative advocating a direct continuity between Rus' and the Suzdalia-Muscovy-Russian Empire — an interpretation of medieval history that, for decades, Western scholarship had fully embraced.[2]" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mykhailo_Hrushevsky
If you do not agree with this assessment of Western historians of Hrushevskyi's work, please provide the facts of the refutation of what Hrushevskyi wrote by other historians.

I am not a philologist. And you are not a philologist. But you and I are scientists. Therefore, they should support words with FACTS during discussions. I have given you quite a few facts with references to experts in the field we have been discussing (history). And you did not provide ANY facts. Only emotions and accusations. Here are some more facts about languages, now from philologists. As I know, the basis of the language is the word, and the basis of the word is the root. Linguists say that the proximity of languages is determined by the proximity of the sound of words. Look at this table. The Ukrainian language has a lot in common with East Slavic languages, but Russian does not. But I am not a philologist and therefore I will not discuss. I just stated a FACT.
I will give you another very interesting fact from the history of Ukraine and Russia
I didn't take your word for it and decided to check. Everything is much more complicated than you described. Look at this - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slavic_languages Maybe after that you won't speak - "The difference between Russian and Polish is no more than the dialect differences in German, Italian, Arabic, and Chinese. But these languages are considered a single language." But most likely, you will say "if the languages are similar, then we and the Poles are one nation" (it's a pity that there are no philologists among us)
I already wrote to you. It is funny for me to hear from a microbiologist the subtleties of linguistics and history, which you write about in an instructive tone here. Should I just take your word for it? I give you a link to a fundamental historical work "History of Ukraine-Rus"(over 6,000 pages) http://archeos.org.ua/?page_id=1522. And you write in response "...Kiev no longer existed. The original population was slaughtered almost 100% by Tatar-Mongol newcomers..." (as if you lived at that time and saw everything with your own eyes). During the entire time, you did not provide ANY reference to your statements, at least from Wikipedia, but better from English-language sources ("Russia Today" is not suitable). This is a typical example of the level of discussion with the Russians. You believe that everyone should just believe you. And whoever does not believe is the enemy. This is how Russian superiority towards other people is manifested.

wrote "it is inappropriate to attribute an article from Wikipedia as a “scientific document”.." That is Right. It is unfortunately deplorable that some scholars do not take the trouble to read academic references. Worse, they allow themselves to give opinions on scientific publications without reading them. “One never speaks so well of what one does not know but one desires to know; afterward, one only does profess” (Geroges Picard, Own translation). It is heartbreaking to note that some Scholars prefer to continue to utter prejudices without bothering to read, out of lack of desire to know.I conducted a sociological study. About 80% of men in Saratov and St. Petersburg (I think 80% of the entire Russian population) are ready to fight until the victorious end. Their reasoning is as follows: we have no hatred for Ukrainians, only revenge for our dead relatives and friends, and a terrible hatred for NATO and the USA. .
I will repeat what I have been saying for a long time: I am a fourth generation Russian officer ( Colonel), I have Ukrainian relatives (Ukrainian soldiers and officers, one of them fought in the DNR as part of the ATO) and Russian relatives (a great-nephew who fled to Georgia, a cousin who fled from Kiev to St. Petersburg, a friend who delivers food to Russian soldiers, etc.) You will easily understand what I think. I have great respect for my like-minded friend (Ukrainian, from the Cossacks), a full Knight of the Order of St George Paskevich. The US and NATO countries have strangled two brotherly nations in a brutal fight. I respect Ukrainians who give their lives for their ideals, for the Motherland. I respect Russian soldiers who believe (!!!!) that they too are giving their lives for their homeland and ideals. The whole world is watching this brutal battle like in a theatre. Africa, part of South America, Asia (part) support the Russians, and the USA, Israel, EU support the Ukrainians. Blood is pouring out in rivers. And I do not know what to do! The situation is getting worse and worse every month (that's how I see it). Russians believe that they will win, and Ukrainians believe the opposite.
I support any opinion, even if it doesn't coincide with mine (my values and beliefs).
I look at this world in the XXI century and think: earlier Frenchmen, Englishmen, Russians (Pushkin, for example, was killed by Dantes) defended their honour in duels (honour above life), Americans just shot with a colt, whoever was faster, the one who lived. But that's not what I'm talking about. The world has changed, honour is defended in court, writing denunciations on each other, doing mean things..... In the USSR it has been like this since 1917, and in other countries too. What do I suggest? For example, a discussion in which the winner will be recognised as the one whom an impartial jury recognises as the winner. There was such a thing on Russian television, it's a pity it disappeared (it should be noted that it was more of a show than a duel...). My fellow countryman Goncharenko suggested the topic. No propaganda. Just our thoughts. It's not bad....
I support any opinion, even if it doesn't coincide with mine (my values and beliefs).
Socrates argued with the Sophists.
The Sophists believed that truth is relative: everything is true depending on how you look at it. 2. Socrates believed that truth is absolute: there is only one absolute answer to any question. 3. When asked what is beautiful, the Sophists answered: a beautiful horse or a beautiful tree....
***
In what era did Socrates live?
The philosopher was lucky to be born in the era of flourishing culture, science and art. Athens was at the height of its greatness.
And Socrates is also a citizen of the world's first democracy. His voice mattered: he defended strategists condemned to death from the unjust judgement of the demos.
The debates between sophists and philosophers were never silent then. In them Socrates practised his rhetoric. When arguing with sophists, the philosopher beat the enemy with his own weapons: irony, wordplay, inferences with logical errors.

I inform some scientists about their phrase "...it is inappropriate to attribute an article from Wikipedia as a “scientific document".." That is Right. It is unfortunately deplorable that some scholars do not take the trouble to read academic references..." 1) Ms. Russian scientist who wrote this did not cite ANY reference to confirm the opinions she wrote; 2) Although Wikipedia is not a reliable source, even the information provided in it has references to sources 3) I do not claim that Wikipedia is a source of SCIENTIFIC information. But this is the minimum source from which a normal scientist can find enough professional information.
To: P.F. Zabrodskii "...and a terrible hatred for NATO and the USA." So why did Russia attack Ukraine in this case? Then attack NATO and the USA! You love Ukraine and at the same time fire missiles at it. But you hate NATO
and for some reason hide this hatred. Show her! Attack NATO! Indeed, "You cannot understand Russia with your mind!" There is its own, unique logic that the whole world does not understand.
Russian microbiology researcher Marina Klykova listed several names, but never provided ANY references to serious historical or linguistic works to support her fabrications! And left this topic... It's a pity.
Finally, Marina Klykova wrote "...Russians are the same indigenous inhabitants of Ukraine as the Ukrainians. Ukrainians have always lived in villages, Russians in cities. That is why Kiev is a Russian city!" Such division of people is the ideology of Russian Nazism! And they say that Ukrainians are Nazis! If Kyiv is a Russian city, why are the Russians shelling it with cruise and hypersonic missiles? There are clearly problems with logic here (at best)
Marina Klykova
wrote "I am ending my stay here. This all is not for me..." I think there are valid reasons for this wise decision and I will do the same. Speaking of Academic references, and before leaving, I will mention this just-released paper by Song, Y. (2024). Ironclad US commitment to NATO? From NATO expansion to the Ukraine crisis. Cogent Social Sciences, 10(1), 2282734. Available on: https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/23311886.2023.2282734One may read in the ultimate conclusion of the paper: "As the Chatham House report by the NATO Group Policy Experts explicitly indicated, European governments are responsible for ensuring their territorial security, as “no amount of ‘smarter’ defence will compensate for a failure to reverse falling defence spending” (Butora, Citation2014). This, to a certain degree, explains why Trump mocked NATO as “obsolete” and had a long history of denigrating NATO and removing the US from the Alliance. Although the US is now “back” at NATO as Biden assures European allies that the Alliance’s mutual defence pact is “a sacred obligation”, Europe, which sees the image of US leadership becoming stronger across much of NATO than it has been in years, remains unsettled about the credibility and longevity of US commitment to the Alliance, simply because it also understands that the thorny issue of “two-tiered” alliance has disrupted the organisation’s strategic agility and vitality thus affected the US relationship with NATO. In short, concerning the unsatisfactory and even flawed coordination efforts, as well as the growing US preference for the “Pivot to Asia” strategy, which places more focus on the Pacific over Europe, it seems highly likely that unless something changes, NATO will end up just doing less with less."
Russians cannot understand the simple division of people accepted throughout the civilized world. For example, in the USA there are no Ukrainians, Mexicans, Palestinians, etc., but there are AMERICANS of Ukrainian, Mexican, Palestinian, etc. origin, that is, their ancestors were of the respective nationalities and they preserve the traditions and culture of their peoples. In Europe - similarly. Only Russians for some reason consider everyone who can speak Russian or a language close to Russian (for example, Ukrainians) to be Russian. This phenomenon needs thorough research.
Something tells me that Marina and Jamel will not be able to leave this topic :)
What happened in 2014? You know this only from Russian TV. And I and my students were participants in those events. President Yanukovych deceived his people and said that now we are not going to Europe (as he promised before), but we are going to Russia. Outraged people took to the streets with protests against deception. The president Yanukovych gave the order to shoot the demonstrators. The Ukrainians did not hide and started shooting back. President Yanukovych got scared and fled to Russia. His government also fled to Russia. The only legitimate authority remained - the Verkhovna Rada (+ also the judiciary). The deputies of the Verkhovna Rada appointed one of the deputies (Turchynov) to temporarily perform the duties of the president and appointed the provisional government. Then presidential elections were scheduled. In these elections, among all the candidates, Petro Poroshenko won, who formed a new permanent government. What is wrong? Yanukovych, who fled to Russia (or was kidnapped by the FSB) from Russia, began to declare that he is the legitimate president. But he is not easy because he 1) fled the country and did not fulfill his duties for a long time; 2) the people of Ukraine elected a new president. What is wrong? But your Putin and Russian propaganda started shouting about a "coup" in Ukraine, hushing up the fact that 1) the old president Yanukovych fled; 2) the people of Ukraine LEGALLY elected a new president, who was recognized by the whole world. Russians! Understand! Ukraine is not your region or republic within the Russian Federation. This is a SEPARATE SOVEREIGN country, a member of the UN, recognized by the whole world!
Marina Klykova "...None of the Russians had any questions for Ukraine until 2014. Fact? Fact." NOT FACT! Google "...Tuzla conflict between Ukraine and Russia" (2003)
To: Marina Klykova. I'm already tired of responding to your manipulations. You said you would leave here. Then go quickly! Then I will be able to calmly explain all aspects of Russian aggression against Ukraine to foreign scientists here. Although you can stay. The choice is yours!

UAE comments on prisoner-of-war exchange between Russia and Ukraine
UAE: strong relations with Russia and Ukraine helped the successful prisoner of war exchange
Footage
Military operation in Ukraine
The mediation of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the process of exchange of prisoners of war between Russia and Ukraine is due to the strong relations between Abu Dhabi and the two countries. The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated.
"The success of the mediation efforts reflected the strong friendly relations between the UAE and the Russian Federation and the Republic of Ukraine, which were supported by regular high-level contacts, resulting in one of the largest prisoner of war exchanges between the two sides," the ministry said in a statement.
The Foreign Ministry also expressed gratitude to the Russian and Ukrainian authorities for "cooperation and response to the UAE's mediation efforts aimed at achieving success in the prisoner exchange process". The ministry once again stressed that the UAE is in favour of a peaceful resolution of the conflict and supports "all initiatives that mitigate the humanitarian consequences of the crisis".

Only Russians for some reason consider all those who speak Russian or a language close to Russian (for example, Ukrainians) as Russians. This phenomenon needs to be thoroughly investigated.
***
I'll tell you what: it's not true, I have a friend in Israel. he's on the side of Ukraine and even sent 500 dollars (aid). So he says that in the Russian Federation there are Jews (Jews) and churks (inhabitants of Asian republics), Turmalai (Finns), there are Mordva, etc. ... He thinks that we oppress these Russians and call them all sorts of bad words
Today I heard from a "hurrah-patriot" from Russia that Ukrainian prisoners of war do not want to return to Ukraine because there they will be thrown into the attack on the Russians as cannon fodder! I never realised whether this was true or false. If I were a Ukrainian on the side of Ukraine, I would come back from captivity and beat the Russian "occupiers"!
I repeat: since I am afraid of being deceived by Russians or Ukrainians, I support any opinion for the sake of TRUTH!!!
In the end, Jamel Chahed decided to shit in this topic, as he did in many other RG topics (to increase the number of views and rating in RG). Well, I will have to give him the answer I gave earlier. "I have dignity, decency, and pride definitely no less than you. I am convinced that manipulations and Russian lies and propaganda must be fought. You spread it. I'm trying to keep this from spreading, not fight against you. And I will continue to do so until you stop spreading various fakes. Well, let's continue... "Dear colleagues! I am sorry that Jamel Chahed brought you this garbage again. (his message "Previous reply to Vladyslav Honcharenko" ). But soon he will remove it from here and move it forward And will do so constantly. He did this in this topic before. I always answered thus to this message of his -
To: Jamel Chahed. Are you really a scientist? If so, why are you acting like a clown? After each of my answers, you have already deleted and then moved forward your message 17 times, which began like this -
"Previous reply to Vladyslav Honcharenko:(P 237) "..After all surreal subterfuges you used to explain your imposture, it is clear that what you said..."
I have already replied to this post of yours 17 times. I give it for the 18th time. And I will do it every time you delete your message and move it forward. I am no less patient than you are stubborn.
To: Jamel Chahed. Great work! You concentrated all your manipulations in one post. Now do the same with all my answers (complete, not sentences taken out of context). You identify as a scientist! So behave in discussions like a scientist, not like an internet troll. I wrote to you about the causal relationship and the different nature of the wars in Gaza and Ukraine (p.p.236-242). You stubbornly do not want to see this. But you come up with your own interpretation of my phrases and try to manipulate them like an Internet troll. By the way, this is one of the favorite techniques of Russian propaganda, which Ukrainians have learned well to detect over so many years.
Unfortunately, other nations have not progressed so far in this direction. For information - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troll_(slang). (not only you know the "Ctrl-C, Ctrl-V" technique).
I want to note that during this clowning he wrote to me "Go ahead: Post it one last time." And You Did It: Bravo! Now: Please "de Grâce" Don't call me out, Don't address me anymore, and Forget even my Name." I took this as a suggestion to stop this trash and followed it up by writing a post with the following content -
"Before I grant your request I want to tell you the following.
You made the right decision! If I were Russian, I would buy vodka, call my friends and drink for 3 days and brag to them about my victory and laugh at you. But I am Ukrainian. I am a descendant of a great nation that has lived on the banks of the Dnipro River for over 2,000 years. Therefore, I will tell you the following: 1) You have acted very wisely. And that deserves respect. 2) I want to apologize to you for the emotional and perhaps too sharp reaction to the comparison of the war in Gaza and Ukraine and some of your messages. 3) I did not want to offend the author of that article. I don't know him. Maybe he is a good person. And maybe he did not attach much importance to his phrases as I perceived them. Therefore, I apologize to him as well. 4) As I already wrote to you, I sympathize with the women and children of Gaza, not only for them but also for all PEACEFUL residents. My position is this: peaceful people should not die violent deaths. 5) And finally. I am really sorry for our conflict. This misunderstanding did not allow us to become friends, at least to have pleasant memories of our communication. And now I calmly and with a clear conscience begin to fulfill your request "Please "de Grâce" Don't call me out, Don't address me anymore, and Forget even my Name". I hope you now understand the difference between Ukrainians and Russians. And that we are not one nation. And that's why the Russians call us "Nazis" or "neo-Nazis". Because Ukrainians always emphasize that they have little in common with Russians."
But I was wrong, because I thought that Jamel Chahed have no problems with adequacy. Now I'm not sure about it".
Vladyslav Honcharenko, "I have dignity, decency, and pride definitely no less than you." OK, my Bad! So, Please, "De grâce!", don't address my person anymore, don't mention me, and forget even my name.

Previous reply to Vladyslav Honcharenkov: (P 240) Vladyslav Honcharenko wrote, "You are poisoned by the influence of Russian propaganda." Okay! My bad. As for you, you "wrote "Women and children in Gaza suffer for the ACTIONS (aggression) or inaction (failure to fight aggression) of their warlike men". Jemel! You wrote that you were leaving here. Why haven't you gone yet? Have you changed your mind as a woman? I know you feel that there are a lot of ranking points to be earned here. And you realize that you blurted out in vain. But "a word is not a sparrow, if it has already flown, you will not catch it." Be a man, keep your word. I will discuss with you in other topics of RG. Let's not litter my topic with all kinds of garbage.
"Have you changed your mind as a woman?" Proffered, Hold on Tight! by a "Scholar" on a Research Discussion Thread! Nothing less! What a Pity! Do you have something against women? Are you not ashamed? But at the same time, Can one be ashamed when he can sacrifice Dignity, Decency, and Pride at the altar of Hubris and Vanity? What a Decadent Soul!
This is a classic of Russian propaganda - If there are no facts, and no one believed the empty words - you must start hysteria and accuse the opponent of inadequacy. Don't throw tantrums here. I love and respect women. Women have the right to have their weaknesses. But I don't respect men who act like women. Said what you will do - then do it! This is how a real man should act.
"Women have the right to have their weaknesses. But I don't respect men who act like women. Said what you will do - then do it! This is how a real man should act." This is well established now: You have a Real Problem with Women. Advice: the best one can do in this case is to Consult a Specialist. Go ahead, don't be afraid.
Oh, Jamel! Is that how you tried to embarrass me? Ah-ha-ha... You need to take additional master classes from your Russian curators. But you still won't succeed. Why don't you do what you said? Your Russian colleague Marina Klykova said she was leaving and did so (and even deleted all her posts so as not to leave confirmation of her Russian-fascist views). And you? Why are you here? I don't pay money here. But if you want to stay, be constructive, and don't promote Russian propaganda (about bad NATO, etc.) here.
But I know that Marina Klykova is reading us and she will not be able to remain silent for long :)
I have lived in Ukraine, Russia and even Moldova. And in Ukraine I have a girlfriend whom I loved in my youth. And I think about what I would experience if I learnt that a shell would hit the house where she lives and she would be killed (probably together with my child). I also think about what I might experience before I die if a shell were to hit my house and my wife and I were killed. Even worse: I'm not home, I come home and the house is destroyed! My wife is dead, all the residents who were at home. I stand there looking at the burning wreckage of the house.... all of them.

Previous reply to Vladyslav Honcharenkov: (P 237) Vlayslav Honcharenko wrote, "Gazan deaths of women and children in the last two months is twice as high as Ukraine in the last two years". I am sure that a decent person with moral values and empathy would never write such a comparison (unless he is a Russian)". Dr Rashad Seedeen, wrote that in an outstanding article [1]. I would be careful not to make any value judgments about Dr Rashad Seedeen or anyone else. But please explain: why it is indecent to compare the number of deaths in wars of armies aggressions against civilians. Looking forward to reading your explanation.

Previous reply to Vladyslav Honcharenkov: (P 238) Vladyslav Honcharenko wrote "Russians buy not only publications, but also various "studies" from not quite decent researchers". I asked you: But please explain: why it is indecent to compare the number of deaths in wars of armies aggressions against civilians? Do you find that your reply responds to the question asked? Please try again to explain: why it is indecent to compare the number of deaths in wars of armies aggressions against civilians?
Previous reply to Vladyslav Honcharenkov: (P 239) Vladyslav Honcharenko wrote, "The fundamental difference between the situation in Gaza and Ukraine is the nature of the war." Who spoke of the nature of the war? of terrorism? of Islamism? of Neo-Nazism? or of other subterfuges? The question was about the innocent civilian population's Martyrdom in Ukraine and Palestine: "why it is indecent to compare the number of deaths in wars of armies aggressions against civilians?" So please think about it once again and come up with an honest answer, Otherwise let's stick to that.
Previous reply to Vladyslav Honcharenkov: (P 239) Vladyslav Honcharenko Off Topic and Out of Context. Who spoke about Ukrain Russia Israel Or Palestine History or War Contexts? The question was about the innocent civilian population suffering the horrors of wars whatever they are. You Declared "Gazan deaths of women and children in the last two months is twice as high as Ukraine in the last two years". I am sure that a decent person with moral values and empathy would never write such a comparison (unless he is a Russian)" I am not Russian and the Paper I mentioned is From Australia. Hence my question: "Why it is indecent to compare the number of deaths in wars of armies aggressions against civilians?" So please, once again, think about it and come up with a Direct Honest answer: How Gazan deaths of women and children are different from Ukrainian deaths of women and children? Otherwise, let's stick to that.
Previous reply to Vladyslav Honcharenkov: (P 239) Vladyslav Honcharenko wrote "Women and children in Gaza suffer for the ACTIONS (aggression) or inaction (failure to fight aggression) of their warlike men" What are you saying? We are speaking of Women and Children. These are innocent Civilians who deserve only Protection. Can you say that the women and children of the Bucha region were massacred because the ACTION of the Azof Neo-Nazis who committed attacks against the Russian-speaking population in Southern Ukraine? Or INACTION because women and children of the Bucha region were unable to prevent the Azof Neo-Nazis to do so? So please, once again, think about it and come up with a Direct Honest answer: Why it is indecent to compare the number of deaths in wars of armies aggressions against civilians?" In the end, Jamel Chahed decided to shit in this topic, as he did in many other RG topics (to increase the number of views and rating in RG).
I remember my childhood. From the age of eight to 15, I spent it in Kiev on the banks of the Dnieper and in Irpen (it's close by, almost Kiev, 30 minutes by train). And then until the age of 30 I was there every year. First I will tell you about Alesander Blok. He accepted the revolution of 1917. Of course, he did not immediately realise that it was a tragedy for Russia. And so he was sitting on Palace Square in St Petersburg, and a poet he knew asked: "How are you?", and Blok replies: "My estate burned down, my library burned down...". And what do Irpen and Kiev have to do with it? And in Irpen - the street of my childhood - Khmelnitskogo (there the house 21) in 2022 the whole street burned .......
My wife spent her childhood in Donbass. Now it is already the Russian Federation. And there is no longer that village where she played in the sandpit.... The village is destroyed....
I'd like to address everyone. Of course, you can poke as you wish, I am not imposing my opinion. I'll tell you this: when in a discussion, argument or polemic they take personalities, it's no longer a discussion, but the Battle of the Ice Battle (Alexander Nevsky) or the Battle of Kulikovo......

The Russians thought that the war would take place only on the territory of Ukraine. They thought so in vain...
This was written by the great Russian writer N.V. Gogol, whom both Russians and Ukrainians consider their own.
I have been fishing on the Dnieper for many years. And how can I say that Ukraine is not my homeland?
Quote from the book "Evenings on a Farm near Dikanka".
The Dnieper is marvellous in quiet weather, when it rushes freely and smoothly through forests and mountains full of its waters. There is not a murmur, not a rumble. When you look at it, you don't know whether its majestic width goes or doesn't go, and it seems as if it is made of glass and as if a blue mirror road, without measure in width, without end in length, roars and winds through the green world. Then the hot sun likes to look down from above and plunge its rays into the cold of glassy waters, and the coastal forests shine brightly in the waters. Green-skinned! They crowd together with wildflowers to the waters and, bending down, look into them and do not look at them, and do not admire their bright eyes, and grin at him, and greet him, nodding their branches. They dare not look into the middle of the Dnieper: no one but the sun and the blue sky looks into it. Rarely does a bird fly to the middle of the Dnieper! Lush! There is no river in the world equal to it. The Dnieper is also marvellous on a warm summer night, when everything falls asleep - man, beast, and bird; and the god alone majestically looks over the sky and the earth and majestically shakes his robe. From the robe the stars fall down. The stars burn and shine over the world and all at once they are given up in the Dnieper. The Dnieper holds them all in its dark bosom. Not a single one escapes from it; not a single one is extinguished in the sky.
During a massive Russian missile attack on Kyiv, one of the Russian missiles fell in the Voronezh region of Russia and destroyed an entire street in the Russian village (video). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q7JralHWeKM Ukrainian air defense shot down more than 70 such missiles in the sky over Kyiv on 03/01/2024. Imagine the number of victims and destruction if all these missiles hit densely populated areas of the capital of Ukraine. Already did you imagine? Therefore, only people who support the Russian policy of genocide of Ukrainians and the ideology of fascism can question the need for NATO assistance for Ukraine.
For the last two years I often remember my childhood in the city of Dubno and the beautiful and transparent (at that time) river Ikva. And my friend Professor V.K. Parfenyuk (Saratov, Russia) has a beautiful poem he wrote about this river. And two days ago I met a pharmacist who was born in Dubno (synchronicity? amazing), and we spent 30 minutes reminiscing about our childhood in this town. I was walking along the fortress walls and she was doing the same.....

She was 18, I was much older. I met her in Lviv in 1986. We went to the cinema several times, visited the Opera and Ballet Theatre (a magnificent theatre). We looked at the Lenin monument, which is now dismantled, although Lenin gave the Donetsk and Lugansk regions to Ukraine after 1917.
We just kissed and that was the end of it. A week passed and I fell in love with her in a strange, or not strange at all, but sublime love. I found out about her problems with her stepfather. Then she left for Kiev. I wandered the evening streets of Lviv and gasped with terrible longing. For 38 years now, I've often thought of her. And still something incomprehensible and unknown squeezes my heart.
I have already said that I am a Russian officer ready to fulfil any order from the commander (superior). I am a doctor. I love my Motherland. I took an oath in the USSR, so I must protect the territory of the USSR from enemies. Where is Ukraine? Ukraine was part of the USSR, and only the despicable treaty in Viskulyi led to the collapse of the USSR. The USSR is my homeland. And Ukraine? I was born there. AND THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION? I took the oath there in 1968. I did not take a second oath as an officer in the Russian Federation.
Like Voltaire, I respect every opinion, even if I don't agree with it!
This is a great honour for me!
Signed: Colonel P.F. Zabrodsky.
A retired colonel is still a colonel. Not a former colonel, as stupid journalists like to write.
Picturesque portraits of full George Cavaliers.
Lviv. 1985. A lieutenant colonel with tanker badges stands in the foyer of the Rossiya Hotel. He has come, as I learnt later, from Moscow to solve some issue related to military equipment and armaments. He spreads his hands in such a way that it is clear to a Russian person: "I am looking for a mate. I am looking for a third." And he found a drinking buddy. It turned out to be me. Then we found another drinking buddy, and it was my roommate (a Ukrainian), who came from the northern group of troops, from the GDR. He wanted to go to his homeland, to the Far East. But he was left to serve in Lviv as the head of a military plant for repair of military equipment and weapons. And so, having discounted 5 roubles each, we drank beer for two days in a room at the brewery's gatehouse. Ogrannik brought us a canister with beer, there were 20 litres. I was surprised by the kind attitude of Lvivians towards Russians from the Russian Federation. You could walk around in military uniform or without it, speak Ukrainian or Russian. I always told the shop assistants when I bought something: "Duzhe dyakuyu". And I was my own, a Ukrainian who grew up in Dubno. And I could speak English, Russian, Ukrainian, Belarusian, I felt that Lviv was my hometown. My hometown. I went there many times as a child. Since 1954 my father studied at the Polytechnic Institute, and my childhood memories are coloured in green tones (Lviv parks). In 1984-1989 I came to the Stefanik Library in the uniform of a Soviet Army major. I was struck by the kind attitude to me of everyone: both visitors and library staff. In the library I found American scientific journals that I could only dream about. I remembered Lviv, how pleasant it was for me to live there and walk around the city. And I also remembered the song by the band "Ocean Elzy" - "We walk with you around Lviv". What a wonderful song!
A few months ago, I was watching television. And there was a conversation between our actor, who played one of the main roles in the film "Zhmurki", and the journalist leading the programme. The actor played a tall and stupid killer in the film. So, this actor said that he would never read anything in English. Not even Shakespeare, not even Shakespeare in Russian translation. Why not? Because there is a special military operation, Ukrainians are our enemies, and Great Britain supports Ukraine, so Great Britain is also our enemy, and since this is so, he will never read English literature again. This is, of course, brilliant logic. I'm thinking: did this actor go mad two years ago, or was he born an idiot? Or is he using something like marijuana, heroin or cocaine.
"Zhmurki" is a Russian crime-comedy action film directed by Alexei Balabanov[1][2]. The main roles are played by Alexei Panin and Dmitry Dyuzhev. Filming began in October 2004, and the film premiered on 24 May 2005.
Having visited many cities in Russia and Ukraine, I realised the following: in Ukraine and Russia live "deep people". Poverty life is almost at the level of post-war time (WWII). True, there are carpets on the walls (no longer fashionable long ago), toilet cubicles next to the house, rinsing laundry in the river, no gas, etc. And in Moscow, Kiev and St. Petersburg live people of two new generations..... UKRAINE is "bourgeois": Zaluzhny, Zabrodsky, Gordon, Zelensky, etc. And in Russia - Medvedev, Shoigu, Peskov, etc. I am not Lenin, who was an executioner and sadist. I just want to say to people: fight, fight honestly. But remember that you are fighting for the interests of an international terrorist and scoundrel - the USA.
In Lviv I lived in two hotels (1984-1990), the first one on Lenin Street (now it is called differently) and the second one near the city centre - Hotel Russia. A deputy of the Rada helped me to get a job in the first hotel. And here is what difference I saw: if in the first hotel everything was European, then in the second hotel the wife of a Soviet officer was on duty..... in the evening round the rooms, constant surveillance... etc. And I realised the difference between the West and the East. In Saratov, hotels in Saratov had roughly the same orders.
Lenin-Stalin's cause lives and wins. Just kidding. I'm laughing.
