To me Europeanization is trying to make people or countries conform to "European Standards" , this implies some type of arificiality and even coerciveness. European civilization is much broader and deeper than that as it is based on European philosophy starting from ancient Greece and continues to this day and embraced by the founding fathers of the EU. EU has adopted democracy, dialog equality of all people human rights and solidarity so no country or any people will be left dehind. Therefore the correct term is European integration which applies to all members and canditdate members or to countries and people even if they are far away.

There are ways to observe European integration (not Europeanization). This is done in terms os standards of living measured with various economic indicators and also some non economic criteria. For example a candidate EU country must meet the Copenhagen Criteria. Furthermore some countries that violate fundamenta EU laws risk their membership, good recent example is Hungary and Poland. In addition most EU laws are Directives which means EU gives freedom to countries to choose their own method implement the laws. EU presently is well aware that overcentralization created opposition to the EU by many people (Euroscepticism). As we look forward I think European integration will prevail as an approach to convergence and inclusiveness.

Europeanization is too broad a term to include many applied research aspects. It can include cultural, geographical, political, economic, legal, security, organizational and many other aspects.

The main problem of the research is to choose an appropriate multi criteria methodology, which will define the content of the term and determine key criteria and indicators for their evaluation.

This task is particularly important for countries on the periphery of the European Geographical Area seeking European identification.
