I am a bachelor of software engineering (undergraduate) and I am currently conducting a research on the emotion recognition, and I need some help with the starting material. I found a lot of articles on that topic. But still I am just starting studying and I want to get some recommendations on books, articles or/and courses to create emotion recognition software program.
Also I am interested in physiological aspects of emotion recognition, so I will be grateful for some physiology materials too.
I would recommend reading around the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems, the thalamas, hypothalamas, amygdala for physiological aspects, and facial feedback theory. Also to gain a good overview of emotion theories, I would recommend reading around the physiological-psychologicval theories of James-Lange and Cannon-Bard, Schacter-Singer's two factor theory, and Lazarus's cognitive appraisal.
I recommend doing a literature review on two specific databases SCOPUS and WEB OF SCIENCE. There you will find a lot of research directed to your area of knowledge regarding the Psychology of Emotions.
Hi Vladyslav Zhulkevskyi . Since you mention just getting started, I'll just point you in the direction of Klaus R. Scherer's work. He conducted several studies on reactions to vocal affect, including physiological aspects such as electrodermal and blood pressure reactions just for starters. Additionally, he is quite well-situated to introduce yourself to appraisal theories and his own Component Process Model.
On the phonetic/linguistic level there are a number of studies I used in the past, as well. They are outside the Psychology field so am not sure if they will be of great use to you. I believe Voutilainen et al. (2014), López-Cózar et al. (2011), and Bitouk (2010) will be of use for your particular interest in emotion recognition.
