winRHIZO software is to be purchased and it is not free. It contains a software key with a scanner. Computer is required. Root samples are collected in the field and are brought to the laboratory. After separating from soil the roots are put in the scanner for a picture with a number of parameters like length, diameter etc. All are visible. The root collection is tedious job but the root study with winRHIZO is really user friendly.
