Dear community. I have gone back into academia after a twenty-year break from my Undergrad to study my Masters, and I am now in the dissertation planning stage. I am struggling with the research approach for the Action Research project and would value input from all the experts here.

Working title: An Investigation into the business impact of failed deliveries within e-commerce due to the Cash on Delivery (COD) Payment Mode.

My thoughts following the onion model are as follows:

  • Positivism.
  • Deductive/Inductive - I have data and want to generate conclusions using Pareto/correlation and assess the financial impact based on the available operating costs.
  • Quantitative - not sure if it's multi-method or single method (Pareto, correlation, and financial calculations will be used).
  • Strategy - Action Research.
  • Time Horizon - Cross Sectional - as I will pull historical data at 1 point in time over the previous 6-9 months.
  • My key objective is to understand the reasons for the failed deliveries, understand the magnitude of the problem (volume, failure rate, financial impact etc.). Then ultimately devise a series of projects that can be implemented to alleviate, reduce and control the effects of the phenomenon.

I have read as much literature as possible and watched multiple youtube videos, but I am still a little stuck. Therefore, I would appreciate guidance, input, thoughts, and ideas.

Additionally, if anyone would want to be a mentor, I would be even more grateful for some offline support and guidance. I am not an experienced academic researcher and do not want all my hard work thus far to be let down by my lack of experience in this field.

Thank you so much, everyone, for any support
