I see references to poor fruit set in some tropical fruit trees (RH below 30%) but I find few references on the subject. In the Mojave Desert of the SW of the US I have observed poor fruit set on Hachiya persimmon over a period of 15 years while other persimmon have no problems in setting fruit immediately next to it. It does not appear to be temperature related directly since the fruit set in Hachiya is excellent if spring rains occur very close to flowering followed by high temperatures. I also notice fruit set is poor in all sweet cherries in some locations, year after year, but good in others within a few km. The commonality in this discrepancy appears to be the presence of humidity (frequent overhead irrigation) and fruit set or standing water (backyard swimming pools). RH in the Mojave Desert regularly reaches 10 - 15% during spring and summer months.
