Do you know any relation between vaccination time and success of artificial insemination in cattle? I mean is there any correlation between vaccination and early fetal loss? Some researchers say that buster dose of vaccine may have some detrimental effect on embryo or fetus... However I can not find any scientific paper about this issue. Nevertheless, we gained bad pregnancy rates in a herd vaccinated 14-16 days after artificial insemination.
Dear Umut. I guess you wont find a "decent" reference for this, as this would mean someone would have done the experiments - and which farmer would want to have a failed AI? So, from an immunological point of view, ANY activation of the immune system, either through the vaccine antigen or the adjuvant in it, may break the normal tolerance to the foreign protein (semen) or the "50% of foreign DNA". There is clear evidence that some vaccines can cause severe side effects as they are stimulating the immune response too much (that's why for example CFA is taken off the market in Europe). Thus, it is absolutely possible that this may happen in your case as well. However, normally I would expect it to be the other way round: first vaccination, and a reduced success rate afterwards. It could be the case that a sub-clinical infection was established within your herd - what did you vaccinate against?
Dear Armstrong and Werling, The vaccine was for brucellosis... and may have been mix one. However, the farmer is not sure. Because in our region there is not record for this. It is incredible but it is true...
Was it a life-attenuate vaccine? There are two possibilities, I would investigate: were animals tested for Brucella before vaccination/AI? It could be simply co-incidence...
Another possibility could be some recombination of vaccine strain and field strain. Happens for viruses, not so sure about frequency of that for bacterial vaccines.

I exactly know that our study area was brucella infected area and prevalance of brucellosis is very high amoung cattle and also vets. And Vaccine for brucella is life-attenuate in Kars province. I dont think animals were tested for brucellosis prior to vacination.
So, it could be really co-incidence, or an enhancement through a kind of "super-infection". Not nice, but happens when a disease is endemic, and you have to use a life vaccine
Vaccination affects artificial insemination success rate, because most of the vaccines which are peptide or protein or poly-saccharide in nature are agglitinable or show additional binding to sperm head. there may occur a competitive binding of vaccine component to the fertilizin or antifertilizin in side inseminated animal. For making immune defense there might be a possibility that both primary and secondary responses may failed and vaccine assist the body to recognize semen as foreign. In such a condition macro phages may digest the injected semen.

The low conception rate may be attributable to the stress caused due to handling for vaccination
Any vaccine when stimulates immune response leads to the production of cytokines and other humoral mediators which result in rise in body temperature which may also lower the conception rate.
