For element deletion you need not to write a UEL. With the VUMAT only, you can use element deletion. When you define the DEPVAR, you need to define which STATEV will control the element deletion in you VUMAT, say STATEV(x). In your VUMAT , STATEV(x) will have value 1 all the time, when failure conditions are not met. Once failure conditions are met you make STATEV(x)=0 and that suggest that material point has failed.

Anshul, I was going to do that in your way, However, the code that I wrote is a UMAT and I have decided not to change to VUMAT (lots of changes!!). I am planning to make the jacobian matrix to almost zero to inactivate the element when it meets certain failure criterion.

Make the Jacobian matrix almost zero during the analysis may cause convergence issues. Anyways all the best :)

Element deletion works for Abaqus/Standard in ABAQUS 6.14, so you can use UMAT

Thanks. I want to use Vusdfld to delete elements is it possible as vusdfld uses depvar.

Cause i  defined a field variable in elastic  zone and i have johnson cook as plastic behavior so i cant use field variable in plastic zone in order to make yield strength  zero. i wrote my subroutine and recieved no error
