i have defined a nonlinear material with 2.75 refractive index as a host material of hexagonal PCF and when mode analysis is performed with "search for modes around =2.75 ", but i have got effective refractive value near to 0.999 and no confinement is there. Anyone tell me what is the issue here? and in place of this nonlinear material if i use silica then this problem is not occurred.
I suspect that your RI is way too high for total internal reflection (TIR). I assume that this is your core material and what was the cladding going to be? The refractive index of the core has to be higher than that of the cladding, in order to guide light by total internal reflection. Your key formula for the critical angle (CA) for TIR is:
CA = sin-1*(RIclad/RIcore)
Alan Sir, thanks for your reply, i think my problem depends on relative permittivity, permeability and electrical conductivity of the material, because i am taking solid core PCF and nonlinear material as a background material. can you please tell me above properties of chalcogenide material?
