Q1. when I strain a soft and hard material together under a force suppose 50 N and then strain under 0.5 N. the strain value does not change much? how is this happening? as in the real world, the strain is directly proportional to stress generated by the body to counter the force? (please see the figure for more details)
Q2. I was trying to find the deformation plot or the displacement in the Z direction(1D plot, line graph, as shown in the figure). The thickness of my material is 1 micron whereas the displacement shows the displacement in the order of several hundred microns. How is this possible?
Stress is proportional to strain just in the linear elastic zone of the material. A complete problem description is necessary to understand what's happening.

Your are plotting the strain DIRECTION, not the strain. You should plot solid.ep3, and you will a factor 10 difference. When plotting the direction when unloaded you get 1, not zero.
René Christensen indeed you are right.. i was taking up the wrong thing... thanks a lot... :).. can you please help me with the second problem about the displacement?
You are applying an unrealistically high force. You can apply 5 million N and the displacement result will just be a scaling of your 0.5 N result, as you are doing a linear analysis. Nothing moves, not the geometry, not the mesh, and so displacement number are simply abstractions seen from an undeformed frame. # Rajagopalan Pandey
René Christensen thanks for your answer. what could be a realistic force in your opinion. force as low as 25 micro N is also giving the same deformation profile as 50N. I don't know what's going wrong this time.
