My team have been discussing investing in some research methods textbooks. We've got as few ideas but would be keen to hear recommendations on the following areas:
- Mayring, Ph. (2014). Qualitative content analysis. Theoretical foundation, basic procedures and software solution (free download via Social Science Open Access Repository SSOAR, URN: http://nbn-resolving.de/urn:nbn:de:0168-ssoar-395173).
Statistics/quantative methods (general)
- Andy Field, Discovering Statistics with R/SPSS
- Cumming, G. (2012). Understanding The New Statistics: Effect Sizes, Confidence Intervals, and Meta-Analysis. New York: Routledge
- Ellis, P. (2010). The Essential Guide to Effect Sizes: Statistical Power, Meta-Analysis, and the Interpretation of Research Results. Cambdrige: Cambridge University Press

Thanks for your suggestions. I have an old edition of Field's SPSS book and we have been considering the current edition as there seems to be quite a bit more in it. I've also got Bryman, but again it's about 10 years old so might be ready for an update. We'll look into the other suggestions too.
from an ecologists' point of view: I love Quinn & Keough: Experimental Design and Data analysis for biologists - should be applicable to your questions as well
Regarding qualitative methods I have found "Qualitative Data Analysis: An Expanded Sourcebook" by Miles and Huberman useful. My experience is from reading the second edition, perhaps there is a more recent version available today.
