In clinical practice I observe combining intravenous furosemide with torsemide. This is in order to force diuresis in patients with severe oedema (20-kg water retention).
Is there any rationale to combine this two loop diuretics?
I have neither found any literature support to combine the two loop diuretics. That is true that pharmacology of torsemide is not equal to that of furosemide (e.g. better profile of torsemide towards RAAS - see Buggey et al. 2015 Article A reappraisal of loop diuretic choice in heart failure patients
), but in my opinion in does not support such a combination therapy.
