While exfoliating graphene by varying the concentration of surfactants, I am getting a clear trend while performing XRD characterization (the 2 theta peak broadens). However, my I2D/IG ratio doesn't seem to follow the trend. Does anyone have any suggestions regarding why this is happening?
Sample preparation method may affect the Raman spectrum of graphene. How did you deposit your graphene? If I'm not mistaken, the ratio of I2d/Ig ratio is working just for mechanical exfoliated and CVD prepared graphene and not for LPE based graphene.
Thanks for the reply Zulhelmi. I drop casted it onto a silicon chip. Also, does that mean that XRD isn't affected by sample preparation whereas Raman does vary due to the same reason?
Based on my experience, the xrd spectra either from powder form graphene or suspended graphene film on filter membrane is always the same. As for Raman, the doping of your graphene with the surfactant may affect the 2D band characteristic of Raman spectrum besides the art of sample preparation. Moreover drop casting of sample from water/surfactant mixing tend to produce sample with agglomerated graphene and may affect the I2D/IG value.
