Does anyone know if in the cell colture medium and in the serum (FBS) are present PUFAs (polyunsaturated fatty acids)? I used both from SIGMA. Did someone perform mass spectrometry analysis on medium or serum to know their lipid composition ? THANKS!

did you read "Effect of polyunsaturated fatty acids on fetal mouse brain cells in culture in a chemically defined medium" already? It seems the authors give details of the medium composition which they used.

Unsaturated fatty acids are susceptible to oxidative degradation and free radical generation, which is harmful to cultured cells. e designed to increase their solubility and to protect them from oxidation. Adding of Albumin might help to improve the solubility of e.g. linoleic and oleic acids and to protect them from oxidation.
