Goodmorning everyone

I know that when you use the same dataset to write more articles you run the risk of not being ethically correct, the phenomenon of salami-slicing research. But what if I had a "hybrid" database made up of already published data and new, never published data? In that case, would it be ethically acceptable?

For example, having published data on the quantitative and qualitative production of apples in northern Italy and now using that data to compare it with that of other apples in central and southern Italy and also other fruits (Plums, peaches...) of the same nation to highlight this time the approval rating of supermarket customers. In this case, in the aim of the paper would be obviously different, but the database would have some raw data already published...

I believe that by explaining the situation in the cover letter to the editor, the problem does not arise, but I would be curious to know other opinions on the matter.

Thanks
