It is worthy of note, which one would you prefer, publishing in journals that you know others in your field read or publish in journals with high impact factor?
This can go along way in determining the visibility and citation count of your papers.

I prefer high impact factor journals as they are of open access .
Since many journals in philosophy and religion don't have a calculated impact factor, I publish in journals that I know are considered prestigious in the field.

Actually, those journal with higher impact factor are usually open access, therefore more reads by researchers! To publish a paper in a renowned open access journal, one should have a pocket with cash that is possible for those who are engaged in a "fruitful" project. Therefore, I MUST prefer to surrender to closed access journals with no CHARGES, although with less dissemination. Regards!

If one really want to make the world better, one must publish in open access journals. If this is not possible, just share your ideas here on RG - although there is the risk that ideas could be stolen it should be a better choice than 'take ones secrets to the grave'...

Thank you for the invitation. I consider that the amount of the publication fees play its role for the decision of someone to submit a manuscript for publication to a scientific journal. Dr. Seraji made a good point. Put it simply, you can not proceed with a desirable journal if you have not the necessary money for publication. So, your choices are limited. Nevertheless, there are always decent solutions.

Really I strongly prefer an indexed and trusted journal with impact factor that is very close to my field of knowledge, to ensure that all editors and reviewers are having excellent experience in my topic and get more chance to accept my paper and consequently get more visibility and citations.

The choice must go through your self-criticism. What is your intention in generating science: personal promotion or global aid? Particularly I prefer the situation of world aid with the dissemination of the democratic scientific publication without exclusive mercantile or personal promotion, after all we are only passengers in this terrestrial sphere. The greatest impact is to see people reading their material with pleasure and with possibilities of using it to advance and improve their social space of conscious citizen and responsible for a more just and egalitarian society.

Most of journals with high impact factors in Journal Citation Reports (JCR) are free of charge. I prefer these journals for first-priority submission.
