Many allude to the 'glass ceiling' effect when it comes to submitting articles in academic journals. For many, it is an 'imaginary' barrier that prevents submission of their manuscripts. Authors might not feel that they have the skills or confidence to submit, they don't feel supported, they don't trust their study findings, they feel that their findings are not as valuable as others, they do not want to subject themselves to 'constructive' criticism etc. Are those fears over-exaggerated or not? Is it actually a good thing to 'promote' the glass ceiling concept i.e. 'if everyone thought that they and their studies were publishable - might that represent a 'tidal wave' of submissions to journals that would lengthen review/publishing schedules and/or dilute the quality of journals as they currently are'?
