I have a hard time believing that , in effect, few (if anyone) believes there might be a bit of "conditioning" to see a new perspective and approach. (Reflect on the fact that Buddha needed to use much repetition (and that in several different contexts) for people to "see" what he was talking about -- that is a fact.) That's an interesting question, but what do you mean by conditioning?
"Conditioning" is used as the person-on-the street would use it (i.e. the common use). You can stop those on the street and ask them for the "definition" (or use the dictionary). [ Certainly common things can be as important as any more-"formal" term. ]
Traveling while having an open mind allows to see new perspectives, get new concepts and have a deeper understanding of human society. Its very rewarding for the ones seeking the truth to go to places where everything is different, that sort of shock is highly rewarding. Conditioning exists at all levels.
I have for some time thought that an analytic philosopher (and that is the majority of philosophers today) could show and argue that my approach and perspective are potentially totally true. PLUS : The hypothesized _proximate causes of major shifts (stage/levels) change are absolutely TESTABLE (EVEN IN THE LAB : verifiable/falsifiable, though it may take effort to find this subject (small "s") of the topic and one would expect some early studies to fail). The nature of the perceptual shifts (in those hypotheses) is as clearly indicated as possible at present.
Too bad philosophers are so completely self-conforming, self-confirming and their topics set (AND their nature SET), that not a one has done what I just said (above). And, all that, the moreso true of psychologists -- that is not surprising, given their predominant MYTH(s) of "science" (real generally accepted SCIENCE is non-existent or close to that ; AND : NO VALID STRUCTURES (overall theories) exist) -- what virtually ALL new theorists say the NEED (not want but NEED).
I am now TRYING TO PAY select students OR other psychology people JUST TO : first read the KEY paper and then READ my whole set of essays (with no particular "product" and even with NO "product"). That is my desperation -- but this desperation is FOR YOU too. (I want what I have offered clearly and fully (as possible) to "make some 'mark'" BY some thoroughly reading my writings (and NO , there is no short version (I no longer can reasonably provide a "short version"; and this is no fault of mine -- hopefully you can now infer why).)
