As RES-based power plant's nature is volatile. These functions (distribution function) are basically used to mathematically model the stochastic or probabilistic nature of a system. You can formulate the impact of uncertainty or randomness of the RES power during the deterministic modeling of any optimization problems under uncertainty.

it is important to know that energy output from an energy source (such as PV or wind) is a continuous random variable, and for this kind of variable the the PDF is the derivative of the CDF. Therefore, knowing the PDF also implies knowing the CDF (by integration). Anyway, if you know the PDF of the distributions of wind and PV energy outputs you can model mathematically your assessment, according to the targets of your study (predictions, projections and so on)
