For my presentation of articles i desire to express my views in various areas of my interest from literature to religion ,philosophy , psychology , meditation , spiritual , covering the science of Astrology were I have my contribution for which I was invited in All India Astrological conference . I have presented well many article which have been read by viewed & appreciate by well many readers .
I think I started with mostly (b) and (c), then it became more (a) in the last few years as I was getting older and I realised that I have to be promoted before I retire. It is interesting you have (d) in there as well - I wonder how many people also use RG scores for this purpose - and obviously, it will cease later this year...!
My aim of writing and publishing papers, like many people in academia, is to share knowledge which in turn leads to solving of societal problems- since the motivation for the research is the problem identified in the first place (option C). However, advancement in career (Academia and Research) is often premised on the number of publications and impact made. So gradually, everyone in the career line tend to write papers for publication partly based on the promotion criteria (option A).
The main reason for carrying out a research is to solve related problems easily using well tested and successful scientific methods. However depending on your job requirements, research publications may be may be needed for your promotion from one level to another. Other reason are only but secondary.
the major reason should be to solve problems, but with country system that tag publications around promotion and career advancement, the priority has been left untouched
