I am using 0.1% of polysorbate tween in a ion exchange column and I would like to load the eluate into a hydrophobic resin such as a phenyl sephoarose. Does anyone have experience with polysorbate 80 in hydrophobic resins? Is it possible to clean the resin from the detergent afterwards?

Polysorbate is a non-ionic surfactant. It is easily washed from the ionic resin. There is no ion exchange between them. Phenyl sepharose is used in hydrophobic chromatography for the separation of proteins through various hydrophobic interactions. Polysorbate will interact with Phenyl Sepharose through hydrophobic interaction, but it can be removed by washing the column with water.

I thought that polysorbate would stick to the hydrophobic resin and it was not possible to remove it from the column.
The hydrophobicity of phenyl-sepharose is so small that you need to add a high concentration of salt to favor the hydrophobic effect. Are you purifying proteins? If so polysorbate 80 will compete with the protein for binding sites.
Hydrophobic interaction is not a chemical interaction. It depends on the concentration of substances in the water.
