Kenya is currently experiencing unprecedented corruption scandals and the public seems to have given up on fighting it. How can we create an attitude that corruption is not profitable in the long run and is hurting us gravely especially among the youth?
Laws and policies seems to do little to change the amount of money being syphoned out of public coffers. It seems the major problem is trust among government leaders and trust of Kenyans to their leaders.
There is a way that can be followed in order to recreate and change the foundation of a society or a state in my opinion, and this starts with a huge urge and eagerness from the individuals in order to change the possible situation not for themselves but for the other generations. It must be a big cause founded by a good education that can lead people to understand and evolve in their existence within their society by using reason and scientific method in their lives. children must be taught to love and care for each other and neglect the narcissistic urges that may lead to hatred and neglect of the greater good. In addition, violence has never been a good solution for change, therefore, self education of the youth is crucial and their participation in politics is decisive in order for them to be part of the change and the dream to lead one day must be reached too.

Corruption and economic crime are essentially criminal activities that are premeditated by persons who have some form of authority in the contexts in which the crimes occur. The persons have access to a number of things including information, persons, systems, procedures and processes. Consequently, the first line of intervention is to ensure Rule of Law is applied in very instance. Everyone has to respect the rule of law mechanisms. State agencies should apply rule of law principles without fear or favour. Above all citizens must safeguard rule of law as their civic duty.
A country like Kenya has a relatively decently and robust legal framework which has domesticated UNCAC. Additionally, we have appropriate enforcement, regulatory and oversight institutions dedicated to the fight against corruption and mainstreaming of ethics and integrity. Laws by themselves may not yield much as long as no serious efforts are in place to change structural arrangements that make it easy for corruption and unethical behaviour to flourish.
Civil society and other Non-state actors have a major role to play in demanding accountability from duty bearers and advancing values and virtues through social and cultural capital arrangements. The education system not only enables learners to acquire the core ideas relating to accountability, transparency and ethics but also promotes them through co-curricula mechanisms. The transformative function of education plays a central role in causing societal change. To this end, it is necessary to develop curricula that promote these principles.
Communities and countries have to apply rule of law and mainstream ethics and integrity as a way of confronting corruption and unethical conduct. This has to be a way of life, that is, a cultural practice demonstrated in every aspect of daily living from the family level to national level - this has to be intentional. The youth are the largest demographic group in developing countries. Investing in behaviour change communication youth programmes is likely to assist with change and social transformation.
