I am new to the software and i have to observe contamination due to oil spill in series of years, using landsat images. Hence i want to segment different LULC for each year, including oil facility location and if possible, observe degradation caused by oil spills.
Sir - there are a few things going on here. Mapping and change detection. There are a number of ways to combine the two through segmentation (e.g., including spectral change outputs in your segmentation inputs). Below are a few refs as well. Check out the authors Chen and Hay for lots of relevant papers to your question.
WRT the parameters to input; for a forested ecosystem in Canada (Saskatchewan) we used these (Wulder and Seemann, 2003 below): scale (10), color (0.7), shape (0.3), smoothness (0.5), and compactness (0.5). We found they worked quite well and have used them for other forest focused work.
