I am using landsat surface reflectance data for the first time, please how can i get the thermal bands 6-1 and 6-2, do i have to get a different data for them?, i.e non corrected?
I also need help on the uses of the other bands in the landsat 7ETM+ surface reflectance data (atmospherically corrected) apart from Bands 1-5,7.

All of the bands can be downloaded from the USGS webpage for free!

After you download the Landsat 7 image, all of the bands will be available to you.
6-1 and 6-2 are used for different types of land surface temperature, ex. if you want to calculate temperature on normal land surface you will need to use 6-1, and if you are after extremely high temperature, like volcanoes, than you need to use 6-2.

Thanks Gordana, I downloaded the landsat higher level (surface reflectance) data and carried out other analyses, but the thermal bands are not included in the data. Do i have to use a different pre corrected data to estimate the LST? Thanks
Hafsat, if I remember correctly, thermal bands of landsat are not included with the landsat higher level surface reflectance products currently. Further, USGS has plans to provide LST as a product in the future. Therefore you need to separately rectify (atmospheric correction) the thermal bands of landsat and then proceed to estimate the land surface temperature using various algorithms. There are many LST algorithms that are available in the literature out of which the most used are the Single Channel/Mono Window or the Split-Window/Multi-Channel Algorithms. The first method is employed where a sensor has a single thermal band like Landsat 4,5 TM and Landsat 7 ETM+. The second method is usually used with sensors that contain multiple thermal bands like ASTER, MODIS etc. Since Landsat 8 has two thermal bands, Split-Window Algorithm could be utilized to estimate LST but currently USGS does not recommend the use of Band 11 of Landsat 8 because of the stray light effect. So until that issue is rectified, Band 10 of Landsat 8 can be used for LST estimation using the Mono-Window algorithm.
To make your task easier, I have added a reference link which will direct you to a publicly available web based atmospheric correction tool for Landsat 7 ETM+ (including TM and TIRS Band 10 if you need!). It is maintained by NASA Goddard. These are just suggestions and this does not necessarily mean endorsement of any particular method by me. Anyway, I would strongly recommend you to read/refer to a LST Review Article and choose one that best fits the objective of your research. Let me know if you need any help.
