These people had a more global approach not focused on a specific target like your study. Therefore, they used the Illumina HumanHap550 BeadChip to look for specific SNPs.

Your SNP of interest is actually found in their supplementary data table S1.

You will need to design your own primers to check this region by itself, which should be feasible as Illumina has included this target in the HumanHap550 BeadChip. I suggest you read about this product more to see how you would test for the presence of your SNP of interest

just get the information that the SNP is 30kb upstream of the gene (see attachments with position of the SNP and location of the gene).
