For isotopic study of bone sample for diet and trophic level reconstruction, I need to remove inorganic carbon from bone. For the same I need to treat bone samples in acid, (I am using HCl). But for another part of my project I need to do collagen extraction, for which I need to do decalcification. And for that also I am using HCl. Now the question is what's the threshold or limits that differentiate these two processes. Will acidification of bone can lead to collagen extraction if not treated correctly. If yes! what"s the process to understand that. I hope I could convey my question clearly. Thank you in advance!
