As well known, there are a lot of ways to improve TiO2 activity in the visible range (likely more important, under solar irradiance, UV, visible and also nearIR). Doping (anion and/or cation species specific for UV, visible and IR), defects managing of TiO2, composites having TiO2 and a "low" band gap materials (active by itself, with efficient type of contact for charge separation), surface sensitization with molecules, etc. A lot of possibles ways presented in review articles. You can also play with the morphology of the TiO2. Non-metal materials with high permittivity are smart choices for nanoantenna effects enhancing the optical absorption and fluorescence processes at their surroundings. In particular, TiO2 nanostructures such as nanodisks and nanocolumns, due to their large refractive index, have been shown to localize light even in the visible range. As a result, they can increase the fluorescence of a nearby fluorescent nanoparticle or lead to a more efficient light absorption around the nanostructures by a given absorber (for instance perovskite).
