In 2D photonic crystal analysis in comsol how can i give the value of height of rods. I believe height we consider in 3D dimension only as far now. But i am in doubt that is that right if i am neglecting height when i am creating 2D dimensional photonic crystal - rod in air configuration. But practically i feel its wont exist like that..But when I am taking 2D analysis giving height is a confusing factor for me here..can any one help me out this..?

I think you don't need to consider the height in 2D simulations. As you said, 3D simulations are more realistic because the rod always has a finite height. However, for demonstration purposes [such as to demonstrate new physical effects, c.f. Fang K, et al Nat. Photon., 6(11): 782 (2012)], it is acceptable to use 2D simulations, because the height only affects the accuracy compared with the realistic 3D case. Another similar example is that we often use a 2D planar waveguide (whose dispersion equation can be analytically written) to simulate a 3D strip waveguide.
