Hi, I am reading the article of BIOMED-2. There is something really confusing regarding the size of PCR product.
Based on the design of the primer in TCRG tube B, the size range seems to be in 80-140 and 160-220bp. While in the data collected from 30 PCR laboratories, the range is 80-220. The gap between 140 and 160 seems to be missed.
Can anyone explain why this happens? Big thanks.
T cell receptor rearrangements are very diverse and allow the T cell to recognise a wide variety of antigens, It may be that either the populations looked at have never been exposed to antigens needing rearrangements in the 140-160 range or possibly that rearrangements in this region recognise normal antigens in the body so would be bad news for the individuals health , Many of these rearrangements are rare so it might even be that the selection of size ranges contributes to creating this effect...tube 1 analysis includes this size range but its different sizes hide the lack of positives in this region
