Sorry to say, in many European countries there is a severe lack of teachers, and admission to many teacher educations have no competition whatsoever; all applicants that fill the requirements are often accepted. The teacher programmes then also have very low retention; many cannot make it through education. I think that this all reflects that interest for the profession is low among younger students, but bigger for more mature students, perhaps with own families. However, there are other professions that declare themselves as noble. For example, fundraisers say theirs is a noble profession as it shape the philanthropic giving of others who in turn are enabling extraordinary achievements and innovation.
