I am working in the area of organo-bentonite. After the organic modification of bentonite, some changes in the PXRD patterns of bentonite observed that could be due to layer exfoliation. Moreover, there appear additional patterns at 2 theta 31.8, 45.5 and 56.5 degrees. Could you please give an explanation for this?

Probably in the process of development of organoclay from pristine clay, detectable grain sizes are developing. If FWHM at corresponding 2-theta is available, this grain size can also be calculated. Typical wavelength in XRD is 0.15418nm (Cu K-alpha). In my opinion it is one of the best explanations.....
