Dear all, according to Grimes DA et al., 2014 ( http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/14651858.CD006134.pub5/abstract;jsessionid=B22DED607EDF16AB77AF3505560F19B1.f04t02 ), treatment of functional ovarian cysts (FOC) with OCP appears no better than watchful waiting. But it's evident that some progestagens (I guess it especially may be refered to 19-norsteroids) have a definite anti-gonadotropic effect. What about this? Does anybody have a reliable information about the positive influence of some OCP or progestagens on FOC? Thanks a lot!

the reported study is extremely interesting . Attention is focused on paraphysiological nature of some cysts which tend to regress spontaneously over several months . This " " Waiting therapy has similar results to the EP therapy whose therapeutic rationale is related to the suppression of gonadotropins . Mechanism analogous and similar results can be expected from the use of progestins . The persistence of the cyst after 3-4 months is considered pathological , and there should be the investigation of the case.

Thank you so much for your answer, dear Vittorio! The main idea of my question is why a theory isn't supported by practice. It's evident to my mind that some progestagens have quite strong anti-gonadotropic effect, some do not. So, it means that progestagens potentially could suppress FSH/LH synthesis what secondarily leads to FOC regress... I'm afraid there is not enough reliable investigations just now to close this topic for good and all. The practice to use OCP for treatment of FOC was well known, now it's not recommended, and I do not use this practice too but I'm in doubt...
