Human activity with a live soil and dead soil in agroecosystems is now better known than before? Does it mean man is more 'soul' searching in soil? How this is going to impact an integral approach to agriculture rather than a reductionist view? Who is changing then, man or matter or both? " Matter will reveal the Spirit's face" as mentioned by Sri Aurobindo in Savitri epic relating to the possibilities for man. Let us hope the best and work accordingly for a better world?
In the Book of Genesis the account of creation the creator formed the world from nothing but his Word. God's magnum creation was man who He created in His image on the last day of creation saving his best for last. God gave His Creation a charge to be fruitful and to multiply. Adam in Hebrew means of the earth and God gave his Spirit through a breathing into the clay of this earth. God Life earth and man are interconnected. Physical and chemical representations fail to give credit to the Soul of the Creator. When we align with the magnum creator God Almighty we see the glory of serving Him through promoting the living earth. God said to Cain that the earth was crying out for shed blood of righteous Abel. There are many in this age that cry out to living earth to be restored to God's original glory after millenium of mistreating the mother earth. Have we not treated soil like dirt? Concentrating on living earth makes sense theologically but also it useful and practical for guiding our agronomy and farming systems. If we do not steward the earth we are caught in a vicious downward cycle of poverty and despair. Our goals needs to be life and life in abundance. With current issues of over enrichment of greenhouse gases the repair of what has been lost in our precious soil is our best remediating option. To do this we need to change our hearts in relation to value of life which comes from water air soil sun and plants. Man's role is as old as Eden take care of the garden.
Dr Senapati , man has always been interested in live soil, so called soul of soil. But , of late , our drive for higher productivity has diverted us towards another side of soil , overlooking the invisible drivers of soil fertility, called microbes . These microbes , infact , provide the multiple functions of soil fertility . Probably, this has been the driving force behind such a massive support for organic farming to safeguard the liveliness of the soil. I think , the comments of Dr Reddy , we are missing here heavily..
