Maybe my answer is a bit disappointing, but anyway I put it forward. The document of Sergey is indeed describing very well how to describe the critical droplet radius. However, it is done within the framework of the classical nucleation theory (CNT). What I learnt about CNT that it is a very instructive theory for understanding the physics of nucleation, but that the predictions of CNT are way off.
