nf639 dreived from mammary tumor of transgenic female mice of MMTV Model carrying the ERB oncogene. I worked once with the FVB Tg mice which are suitable for your desire experiment.
Thanks Avraham, but do I need to use Tg mice? those will spontaneously develop her2 positive tumors. Can I use the NF639 in FVB/n mice which are not transgenic..why wouldn't the NF639 tumors grow in them?
Hi, I just wanted to follow up on this post. I would like to do an animal study with the NF639 cell line and wanted to know if you had determined FVB/N mice a suitable model in your study. Thanks!
FVB/N mice will not develop the NF639 tumors - the cell line expresses rat HER2 and apparently the mice are able to reject the tumors after an initial growth. I could not grow these tumors in FVB/N females either as sub-cutaneous tumors or orthotopic mammary gland tumors. The cell line has been used by others in nude mice- including the group that initially reported it. Or if you could get the transgenic MMTv-neu mice, from which the cells were derived, the tumor will grow. However, since these mice spontaneously develop HER2 positive tumors by 19-22 weeks, I am not sure if finishing study between 7-15 week would work for you.
