I have measured the zeta potential of a series of varying concentration of a zwitterionic surfactant (purity greater than 99%) in DI water (18 Mega Ohm -cm) with a wide range of pH, around 2-13. I have found that the isoelectric point (zero charge) of this zwitterionic surfactant is about at pH = 3.
I am wondering there is any explanation why this zwitterionic surfactant produces negative charge at pH 7? Do I have to believe that it is an effect of some other ions in solution?
