You must calibrate the response using standard solutions and it is advisable to run reagent blanks and test the analysis by spike recoveries from digests of samples and blanks.
Was my response not what you wanted? The response measure can be peak height or area. You probably need a matrix modifier to allow evaporation of unwanted material during 'ashing' and you need to keep in mind that evaporative losses can occur around the BP of the metal if reductants, such as C, or C compounds, are present.
