I am trying to tune the cantilever HQ:NSC19/NO AL ( https://www.spmtips.com/afm-tip-hq-nsc19-no-al ) on the 3100 SPM Dimension. The manufacturer's suggested resonance frequency is 65 kHz (25-120 kHz). I tested in the said frequency range with drive amplitudes of 1 V, 0.5 V, 0.01 V. Despite these varying conditions, I obtained an error message saying "Drive amplitude exceeding safe limits. The cantilever maybe is broken or misaligned."
I changed the cantilever, realigned it, fixed its position on the holder once again, and still, it won't tune. Additionally, I can see the diving board of the cantilever on the camera image.
What could possibly be going wrong? Do you have any suggestions?
Most likely the laser is routed onto the substrate of your cantilever and not the cantilever itself. Unfortunately the laser can be reflected off the substrate and routed to the detector, showing a Sum signal, centred on the detector, but Tune won't work because it isn't actually on the cantilever.
