Please, how do I convert intensity to counts in a NaI detector? For example, If I calculated Intensity of 6mR/hr at 1m, and I need to use the NaI detector to measure the same sample at 1m, the detector returns the reading as counts per minute. Please, how do I relate this to intensity? Convert from counts to the intensity and vice versa?
Can anyone help with technical information on the Co-60 calibration for a gamma spectrometer? (NaI detector)
This is simple calibration. Divide 6 mR/h by cpm. You are calibrated for that radionuclide at that particular geometry.
Since your system gives CPM, find out the sensitivity factor in CPM/(mR/h) with the dose rate measured or calculated at the location of the system. For this one can use a standard Co-60 source. Generally it is convenient to get the count rate in terms of CPS. The response will be highly dependent of the gamma energy.
In the case of gamma spectrometry, you should have standard gamma sources using which calibration can be done at the specified geometry. Go for a linearity with same energy in the measurement range for the specified geometry. Also do an energy calibration.
