Thanks Kishore. Yeah I am aware of this technique but the GC-MS is not available here at UMKC. Therefore, I was looking for some smaller or simpler assay/instrument.

Dear Ankit,

An approach used in the alcohol neuroscience literature (and that I have published with before) is to run an spectrophotometric assay with alcohol dehydrogenase and NAD+. In the presence of ethanol, alcohol dehydrogenase reduces NAD+ to NADH, which can be observed by measuring on a spectrophotometer at 340nm. You then compare to a standard curve that you have generated using known amounts of alcohol in order to get a quantitative measurement. It's a straightforward assay utilizing cuvettes and a spec.
