I am currently in the process of buying a microscope and Im looking at a more affordable brand than Leica, Nikon, Zeiss, etc. My current brand options are OPTIKA and Motic for one of their "high-end" models with 6.5x - 55x magnification (and similar). Does anyone have some advice on how the quality compares between these two brands?
It all depends on what you want to do, I. E. the mag and resolution required. required. Do you want to photograph specimens? Having worked a lot with Zeiss and Leica, those brands do give excellent image quality. A good idea is to look around for a second hand one, which is sometimes more affordable.
Also, if your an affiliate of an institution, ask for a demo, if theyre serious they will.
They are both comparable. But Motic makes their own stuff, and Optika (albeit a serious company) buys them somewhere. So imo it depends on how much trust you have in your dealer.
