Usually, a few keywords in alphabetical order should be given as an aid to indexing. But how to choose these words regarding number and meaning for the manuscript?
Good, thanks, Kaialy, this is general, I mean there is no official or standard selection method for the keywords. Such as animals or Rodents or rats, amino acids or exciatatory amino acids, neurological diseases or Alzheimer's disease. what's about the number of keywords, is it limited????
In eXPRESS Polymer Letters, where I am involved in the editing process we require the use of 3-5 keywords, the first of which is supposed to be selected from a set defined by us. The rest can be chosen freely. In this way we provide both a kind of reprducibility and the necessary flexibility for the authors,
Well, thanks Prof. Banhegyi, but still there is no standard method of selection of keywords, it looks, random selection without specific criteria, let's say that we solve the quantity but not the quality, till now.
While choosing keyword you should keep the following in your mind 1. It should be general 2. simple 3. frequently used word in your manuscript 4. it should give an idea of your research area 5. It should mention the methods adopted
Dr. Yadv, I do agree with you about number 1, 4 and 5. However, regarding 2 and 3 are not prctical or easy to choice. However, I am wondering how the keywords reflect the paper.
I think that keywords are also good if you want your article to pop up in search engine search results and not only to be better sorted in categories in journal publisher's website catalog.
Thanks to all, First of all, generally, why some journals have Keywords others are not. Second, why there is no standard index for keywords as to write e.g., animals or rodents or rats and so on. Everyone wants to include more general keywords in order to attract more readers to his article, correct me if I am wrong?.
