Article Effectiveness of the Miyawaki method in Mediterranean forest...

Miyawaki method of dense forced afforestation is based on the concept of reducing the time period of natural succession in any barren or degraded area by human induced management practices. The positive thing is that in shorter period try to re vegetate the land . The negative aspect is that the natural process of changes occurring in soil mainly rhizosphere can not cope with fast changes unless nutrient and moisture supplied from outside, so natural nutrient cycling not start at the pace of afforestation. Still the technique is very much effective if practically be applied in degraded and denuded forest ecosystem management.

I think after some time like around 1 year after successful establishment of plants we don't need to add anything from outside. The forest will reach to self sustaining stage. But initial hard work and addition of nutrients using some organic materials may be laborious; it is only negative aspect associated with this method. The initial preparations liking digging of the area using JCB etc. may increase the project cost. We can do cost benefit analysis of any forest prepared by this method and can give some right statement for the method. If anybody has some scientific papers in this regard then it would be helpful.@ Manmohan Sir

Leila Vatani Yes, you are right. A self sustaining forest can be prepared within 36 months by this method. But initial preparation for this method is very laborious.

You are welcome to Andhra Pradesh where large scale Miyawaki Plantations were undertaken by Government.You can study ,analyse and give us the recommendations.
